Cute and addictive, but simple and oddly frustrating January 22, 2008 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
Ok... what is that woman SAYING?!?!? As many have said, Mama is very difficult to understand. This doesn't seem critical for gameplay... just.... weird. Somewhere in the gaming world of Tokyo is a highly-caffeinated Japanese woman who thinks she has performed an Italian accent. Anyway. Moving on. The game itself is very simple. Childlike. Yet I keep playing it. Why? I would love to know. Maybe because it is so mindless that I really don't give a [beep] if Mama likes my cooking or not. It is just kinda fun to peel virtual carrots and wonder what the hell that red stuff is they want me to add to scrambled eggs. And I can tell kids will love it. I haven't shown it to my 10 year old yet (off visiting friends) -- but I just know she'll be thrilled.
As some have also said, some of the controls are frustrating. Something like "stir" shouldn't be difficult... yet for some reason - no matter which way I move the remote, it never works the right way. Ditto with some kind of timing thing where I am supposed to add ingredients, change stove heats, etc. They don't really tell you what you are supposed to do, and the controls don't seem to work the way you think they should. I even think it once said "use B button" and "A" is what worked. Nevertheless, for some silly reason I find it fun to swirl pretend butter around in a cartoon pan and here Mama say something that may or may not resemble the word "awesome."
Cooking Mama is tasty fun! January 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'd never imagine I'd find a video game about cooking to be fun until I rented it for my adorable five year old niece. She loves this game. I've played for a few minutes and even I'm hooked. This game at least will keep her out of the kitchen while I cook though she has much more fun playing the game than I do when I prepare real world meals. I love watching her play mainly because I like cooking mama's accent it makes the game much more fun. It reminds me of when I use to watch that Japanese cooking show Iron Chef!
Great game! January 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I cooked everyday and I think before I purchase this game: Do I want to cook even when I try to relax and playing some vedio game? It turns out this game is so much fun! I am amazed that one wii remote can do so much different things. I even learn a lot of dishes (of course, not the detail receipe)and have a rough idea how these dishes are made. I recommand this to everybody who likes to cook!!
Cooking fun for girls...and boys too! January 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a must own for anyone with the Wii! I had my two teenage nieces over for a weekend during the NYE holiday and they wanted to play my Wii for the first time. Well, around Thanksgiving I got one my nieces (the 16 year old) the Cooking Mama for DS. She liked the DS version so much that she wanted to rent the Wii version for them to play. They played into the wee hours of the night! I had my stepsons (10yrs and 4yrs old) over for the next weekend. I still had rental time on Cooking Mama and they said they'd try it. I went to watch a DVD and kept hearing what appeared to be yelling from the boys. I ran to room to see they were cheering each other on to hurry and finish tasks required by the game. They were playing against each other but would help each other so they'd both finish and get a reward. The game even gets you feeling like you've cooked something. Hahaha! Get this game!
Lots of fun for me and my friend! January 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a 17 year old girl, and I truly enjoy this game. There are myriad different recipes, so the game does not get boring (I still haven't made all of the meals yet)! Me and my friends (yes, even my male friends...) love this game, and we have a great amount of fun, laughing the entire time.
I would recommend this game, especially to see all the cool function of the wiimote.
You feel a great sense of accomplishment after making a really difficult recipe, such as Borscht or Lasagna!
I love this game!
