2 out of 5 stars Forgettable.   March 11, 2008

After the first couple minutes of playing, you start to wonder if the Japanese woman's voice is going to drive you crazy.

2 out of 5 stars Mediocre at best. . .   March 1, 2008

I was looking forward to getting this game is it utilizes the wii controller wonderfully, but the controls are so flawed, it's hard to have fun.

The idea of the game was a great one, but the controls are tedious & frustrating. Half of the time, the game doesn't even respond to my commands. Also, before you start a round, there's a few words on the screen that tell you what motions you'll need to use & what buttons to press - too bad that aren't very thorough. There are times when you need to hold a button down and it doesn't tell you that or you're just left blank because there are multiple steps & the you weren't prepared for and don't how to complete.

On the other hand my cousin (9 years old) loves the game. She didn't seem the least bit annoyed that the game didn't always respond.

Multiplayer is amusing and redeems this game, but not by much. . .

This game could have been great, if it had taken a lesson from Diner Dash. imagine trying to keep track of several dishes cooking at once - now that would be FUN!

Ultimately I'm glad I bought this used on ebay & now I know why the person sold it. My advice: RENT IT FIRST

5 out of 5 stars Fun for Everyone!   February 22, 2008
This game has been a blast for our whole family. My 4 year old, almost 5, loves, loves, loves it! For the first few times you play you will have to read the on-screen instructions to the little ones who can't read yet. However, after they play it a few times, they will be able to understand what to do.

3 out of 5 stars Rather buy it used   February 10, 2008

I was really excited when this game first came out on Wii, because when I first played the cooking mama was on the DS and it was sooo much fun!! But after I played the cook off, I find that it is pretty much the same as the DS just that it has more recipe, which it's cool but its not worth the $[...]. So I would rather buy this game when it is on sale or something, cuz this isnot the best game ever....

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as the game play movies and if you are left-handed even worse.   January 26, 2008

I saw the video of game play for this game on another site and it looked great. I was actually excited to get the game. After playing it for about an hour I am disappointed. First off I am left handed so I hold the Wiimote in my left hand. Too bad everything in this game is geared towards somebody that holds it in their right hand. I guess that nobody on the development team or any of the testers were left handed. I find that a few of the movements are difficult to do or in the case of using the meat grinder will pretty much not work at all with the Wiimote in your left hand. I have also found that sometimes the controls just do not seem all that responsive. The graphics are what they are and to be honest it is not really anything that bothers me. I find that the manual is really lacking big time. There are almost no instructions at all. I also did not find any direction when it comes to cooking the food in the game when it comes to the different amounts of time each takes. I am frequently burning things which of course ruins the score. I also have won a few gifts from playing the competition against the computer people from around the world. I have not figured the point of this overall. It is not horrible to play but I find that the computer does not cheat but of course knows things that I do not. Again I would attribute it to the lack of a good manual or even in game instructions. There is a practice mode for each recipe before you do it for real but how many times can you really do the same recipe over and over again before you get sick of it?? Finally I would recommend that people rent this game first to make sure that they like it. I give it 3 out of 5 because I am not sure if the game would be better and more responsive if I was right handed.
