So much Fun! April 23, 2008 This game is so fun! It's unlike anything thing else out there! If you're a foodie like me you'll love this game! I wish Wii would make more games like these!
More frustrating than fun. April 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was excited when we got a Wii because I am not a big gamer (my husband is the gamer in the house), but the games looked really fun and I was looking forward to some games that I could play for a change. Cooking Mama was one I was hoping to get my hands on. Hubby finally brings it home one night and we throw it in while the kids are asleep. Trying to figure out what Mama wants you to do is a hassle. The screen will display instructions before each event, yet the controls are off or something because we both had a lot of trouble accomplishing the goals. Then you've got Mama yapping on about "dude not mine" or whatever it is she is rambling... it's so hard to tell because it sounds like a japanese woman speaking english but trying to throw in another accent. I see from these reviews that a lot of others have complaints about understanding Mama. (wish I could toggle her off--lol) I can't bring myself to play more than a few recipes and I want to shut the game off. I think this game is for people who don't know a thing about cooking because I could go to the kitchen and cook a 3 course meal a lot easier than cooking w/ Mama. I wish I had saved my money... this game is just not fun to me...
fun for the entire family April 8, 2008 we all played this game...mom, dad and kids from ages 14 to 6 and we all thought it was cute. we are still getting used to the wii controls as we just got our wii yesterday and this was one of the games we picked up with it. i'm even sore from all thes stirring and chopping motions. my 8 year old got a little frustrated at first but once she got used to it she was okay. i can't wait to advance in the game further. very cute concept
Worth the $ for fun factor, though not the best game ever March 30, 2008 Cooking Mama on the Wii is super fun, especially with friends. I haven't yet tried the DS version, but I can say that I have already unlocked about 20 recipes and this game is worth the money. at only about 30.00 it's pretty fun. Sure, it isn't the best game I've ever played in my life (nothing compares to Mario games) but it's still an entertaining way to spend time on the wii. Basically you cook different meals. They start you out with some basics (the meals go by cuisines from different countries) and then you unlock more as you play single player mode. This mode is very fun because Mama helps you and it's exciting to anticipate which meal you unlock next. While single player mode is fun, playing against a friend in two player mode is very entertaining; seeing who is the better cook is very fun. There is a third mode in which you play against the computer, someone representing each cuisine from a specific country. That is pretty fun if you want to challenge someone but have no friends around. Overall, I would give this game a 4. The reason being that it is difficult to control at times and the directions are not clear at first. However once you start playing the controls become pretty intuitive because you just do the actions as if you were actually stirring or chopping up ingredients. Mama's comments are hysterical and the graphics are quite cute and fit well with the game; the food looks pretty real too! You do not have to be a master chef or love to cook either. I would say this is a very nice addition to any Wii owner's collection. Other than some tough controls in the beginning, Cooking Mama is a very satisfying, enjoyable game, with or without friends.
Cooking...Doesn't Quite Make It To Mama March 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I first got this game for my birthday, I thought "Oh, cool! Everyone's got this game!" Well, it turns out everyone is just me. This game is pretty fun at first, but gets repeative. I have to admit, it's fun to see all the recipies from different countries, but there's no point to any of it!!! I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone, unless they have a little kid trying to be like his/her mom, and like to cook. Overall, this game can get vey boring, but if you really want this game, I recommend TWO things: 1. Get the DS version instead 2. Prepare yourself for a short-term game I would say this game isn't one of my favorites, but it's not so bad that I would trade it in.
