Possibly the best of the GH series November 30, 2007 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I must say that I am more than happy with GH3. I was worried at first, with a new studio writing the game, and second with the addition of bosses. After playing GH3 both my worries were quickly relieved. The music chosen for the game is outstanding too. While I still think that GH1 has the best sets, the songs on GH3 are awesome. There were only a few songs that I had never heard before. As far as game play, they have fixed the hammer ons so that solos are easier to play making it a little more like playing on a real guitar. The bosses are actually fun too. If you have problems with them they do give you the option to "wuss" out and continue playing through the sets. I haven't tried online play yet but am sure that it will be fun. If it is like playing the bosses I think it will come down to who gets the attacks first. I highly recommend this game as either a continuation to your GH collection or your first installment.
Only worth it for the extra playable songs. November 23, 2007 The CD is not bad, but it's a lot of music that you probably have on other albums and only 2 real new songs (both of which are covers/remixes). This is worth it however for the exclusive downloadable songs for the Xbox 360 game.
garbage. web site doesn't work. November 8, 2007 7 out of 13 found this review helpful
the point of this product is you get a code inside the CD. you plug that code into a web site. that site generates another code for use on XBOXLive for GH3 DLC.
the first web site (owned by interscope) is junk. at the time of this review, it doesn't work. refuses to register me. This item will be returned.
who cares that you don't even get many tracks to download when the site doesn't work to begin with.
Garbage.
An Unworthy Companion November 6, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
You know, part of me wants to recommend this CD as others have done before me, but I really just can't bring myself to do it. My issue isn't with the quality of the disc or the music therein, but honestly - how many people are REALLY going to buy this for the music that's on the CD? For that $13, you can download a lot of these tracks from iTunes or eMusic or even right here at Amazon. No - the real draw for this item is the three song download that comes with it. I must say, you've got to jump through a few hoops to get your songs (put your code in at the website then register then check email then get that then go put in your code and get your code that you then put into your Live account), and while they're not terrible, it's hard to say they're worth the price tag of this entire record. Unfortunately, as I write this review, it's the only way to get those songs in the game at all.
This leaves me sort of at loggerheads with myself. I can't really fault a Guitar Hero completist for buying this CD just for the song pack, but I can't say that it's any kind of a good value with a straight face. I mean, the Guitar Hero 2 song packs were ridiculous, and they cost half this much. If you're just a casual fan, I wouldn't worry much about having this. If you're a dedicated collector and you want all the tracks, I have to say that I don't see you listening to the CD itself a lot, but you'll get what you came for. What this feels like more than anything is an attempt to repurpose a number of the licensed tracks that Activision got their hands on in the production of the game and an experiment in marketing. While I'm curious to see how it works, I have to say that I'm not really rooting for it.
