awesome racing game April 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
this is an awesome game with a lot of different race stiles, machines, and tracks. You can trick out your rider and your rides. You can get a lot of score points and head to the store to buy different MX bikes, monster and trophy trucks, environments, custom riding apparel, and more! This is one of the best games I have ever played. The graphics are great and so is my opinion of this game.
All the fun, without all the pain! March 27, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I love this game! As a former motocrosser (XX years ago) this game presents me with a realistic feel from the days when I would seat-bounce, block pass, and of course, ENDO! The Wii version (mine) is wonderful, but the OS structure is a bit confusing and extremely outdated. I figured it out though. These guys could take a lesson from Apple's interface...
A Fun challenging game March 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is a lot of fun. I've played other games of this type on PS2 and the graphics are just as good. Using the Nunchuk to steer and the Wii remote for gas and brake is challenging but fun. Overall this is a great game.
Fun, but disappointing graphics March 12, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have an original Xbox and a Wii. I played all of the MX racing games on the Xbox up through MX Unleashed. MX Unleashed on the original Xbox was displayed at a super-crisp 1080i, and gameplay was awesome. Framerates were smooth, and it looked like something you would see on Xbox 360 or PS3. With a high-def TV, things were lookin' good!
I thought that this game on the Wii would be even better. The Wii of course is not a graphical powerhouse, but the general concensus is that it is graphically superior than the previous generation of consoles. Some games (Zelda, for example), look great on the Wii, and just as good as similar titles on the original Xbox. But that is absolutely not the case with MX vs ATV.
The Wii version slows down and has choppy framerates when there are lots of objects on the screen. It reminds me of playing motocross games in the late 90's on my PC. The resolution of the Wii is limited to 480P, so naturally the graphics are not going to be as crisp, even compared to my original Xbox. I knew this going in, but thought the environments and details would make up for the lowered resolution. I was wrong. Honestly, I feel like I'm playing a PS1 title, or perhaps a game from an "arcades classics" collection. For the current new retail price, in my mind it wasn't worth it. But enough of the negatives ...
Gameplay on the Wii is absolutely fun. The developers have built an incredible game. Lots of tracks. Lots of surprises. Lots of fun. You'll get lots of gameplay from this title, so if you are an absolute die-hard fan and only have a Wii, then go for it. But if you have other consoles (even previous generation), I would check out your other options before buying, primarily due to the inferior graphics.
MX vs ATV is a hit! February 25, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
As a fan of all the previous MX vs ATV titles, I am quite happy with the latest installment on the wii. The first pleasant surprise to this game is that is has quite decent graphics... not just for a wii game, but period. There are a lot of nice details... from the movement of the tires on the various vehicles to the fact that when you create a profile, your rider wears your profile name on his jersey... you know... the little things. Also, the game's physics are impressive. You really get the feeling like you are driving your respective vehicle. The MX bike feels very agile and limber, the monster trucks are bulky, awkward, but tons of fun... especially during the 'Hill Climb' events or when running a friend into a tree! Also, the environment is well done... I can't tell you how many times I have been clotheslined by a tree or face planted into a railing... which is nice. The online portion of this game is also well done. I was surprised that when I bought this game the day it came out and tried to find a game online, I was able to find someone no problem. Also, when he disconnected unexpectedly, the AI kicked in automatically, and I was able to finish the race rather than have a LOSS added to my record. NICE. All in all, I would say that this is a great title. I had friends over and we spent hours playing the Ski Jump event... I managed to pull off 7 tricks in a jump...it was awesome. Do yourself a favor and buy this title!
