 Very boring September 28, 2007
I had thought I remembered playing this when it first came out on the playstation, and thought I had remembered that I liked it somewhat...but boy was I wrong, or they changed quite a lot of it in this portable version.
I don't even know what to say, small map shown from the start, easy fights...can only use 6 characters max, though you can send others off on solo jobs that you can't see, if they are high enough lvl.
seems it has done worse off in the portable remake as other similar games.

I like this game a lot. I do not care much about the rules system but it forces you to think before you act instead of using the best possible attacks. You should automatically receive bonus characters after you put in 100+ hours into the game. I like Disgaea/ Disgaea 2 better but that is for the PS2. I wish they would make a part 2 for FFTA. I still love FF.
A Little Long, But Worth-While August 21, 2007

I purchased this game years ago, when it first came out. Since then, I have logged no less than 400 HOURS on this game. This is in part due to the very long story line (it should take most people around 80 or 100 hours to complete), as well as the fact that I'm what you might call a "completionist." In other words, I've completed 299 of the 300 quests in this game, and am still trying for number 300. I've maxed out every main character available, and played through the main plot twice. That aside, let me get to the point....
This game is fantastic! The battle system is complex (but not overly so), and makes you use, well, tactics to defeat your enemies. This alone makes it a good game in my opinion, but that is not all. The job system, as well as the skill/AP system is quite clever, and works well with the game. Also, the graphics are particularly good for a GBA game, and the music fits well with the gameplay. So why did I give this game a four?
This game has three problems. Firstly, judging by Final Fantasy standards, this game has a rather simple plot. As if that were not bad enough, the plot is spread thin over hours of gameplay. Secondly, the game can be ridiculously long (although I've kind of come to expect this from Final Fantasy games). But the one problem that irks me more than anything else is the system of "law cards." By itself, the law card system is rather clever and innovative, and it forces you to create new battle battle tactics and to use different characters. However, when you have to deal with constantly remembering three laws at a time, and these laws keep changing on you, it can become quite annoying.
Overall, this game has a few flaws that can be annoying at times. However, the game is so innovative, and so fun to play, that it more than compensates for the game's short-comings. I'd recommend this game to anyone with a GBA, SP, or DS who has plenty of time on their hands.

This is one game that any RPG fan should get! It has an original and interesting plot, incredible customization capabilities, and there are 300 missions to tackle. For a GBA game, it is quite long, which is something that I like a lot; I've played for over 40 hours, and still have over 50 missions left to complete! The clan feature is great, and customizing over 20 characters really opens the door to a world of possibilities in terms of team combinations. Definitely recommended!
Never loved strategy until I played this gem May 12, 2007
Really, this game was such a pleasant surprise, I still reccomend it to people who have a GBA or DS constantly. Like the title of my review, I never could get into strategy games until I played this game, especially Real-time Strategy games like Warcraft or Civilazation. Despite having those games highly reccomended to me, I could not get into them. Then came FFTA, which plays more like a RPG/Chess mish-mash than an RTS. You take turns moving across the battlefield, one charecter at a time, trying to defeat your opponents in battle. Very simple premise, no in-battle micro management involved. It is outside of battle that you will manage your "Clan" members by choosing their Job, and equiping them with the right stuff in order to learn new abilities to use in battle. This is where you will get absorbed: trying to get you clan as powerful as possible and unloking all the jobs. My only gripes with the game are the flimsy plot and that some jobs become obscelete after unlocking some of the later ones. Then again, this is sorta balanced by the fact that you can "Equip" the abilities from your first jobs and carry them over to a new job. Anyhoo, before I lose you, if you're looking for game that will last you a while, even after you beat it, this is THE best way to go. Few other games on the GBA comes close to offering the amount of replayibility of this title. Easily one of the very best on the system.
