Pick this one up if you don't already have it June 8, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is one of my favorite RE games of all time. I was surprised that they were releasing it onto the GC so I checked it out.
It is just like the second one by which I mean its just a port. Buy this if you can only buy it on this console or if you're an impatient person. The real difference between this game and the PS1 game is that the loading times are way faster.
The storyline is self-explanatory, your trying to escape town while a giant monster stalks you with heavy weaponry.
I loved the Nemesis, he was a great idea for this series. I remember when I first saw him and was terrified so I chose the option to run into the Police Station. While inside, he attacked again. I ran into the next room, thinking it would be safe when, BAM! he kicks the door down and starting firing a rocket launcher at me and those in my path, namely the undead.
There are many moments like this involved in this game, which make it all the more frightning and entertaining. The other feature I like in this game is the command system where what you say determines the outcome of the game. It reminds me of those adventure books where it was like "If you want to follow the villian, turn to page 117; If you want to go to the Library, turn to page 50."
Anyway, only pick up this game if you can't find it for any other console.
Pros - One of the best games in the series, a must-have - Faster loading times - The ability to choose your path
Cons - Graphics could be redone, instead we get a port of the PS1 game - There's nothing different from this game or the PS1 game
NnyCW for Capcom City May 30, 2005 Resident Evil 3: Nemesis adds a nice touch to the Resident Evil formula. Not only do you have to deal with oncoming hordes of zombies, but now you have another worry...being chased by a Nemesis that will come after you no matter what you do to try and stop it. The addition of Nemesis made this game one of the most enjoyable, and my favorite of the Resident Evil's. The addition to now be able to walk up stairs without pressing a button really did help way back when, though wondering how that was ever not a feature in the games is a bit of a puzzlement. And on the subject of puzzles, the only flaw this game has is the "water puzzle" near the end of the game. Only because it is totally random. Meaning you can get lucky and solve it in 20 seconds, or it could take about 30 minutes to beat. But other than that, this is a great game that any Resident Evil fan should have in their collection. NnyCW for CapCity.
Gamecube port of Nemesis April 19, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I do enjoy having the entire Resident Evil series available for gamecube. Also I liked the Mercenaries game in this one. It was interesting though. This was one scary game though because of the fact that nemesis would always come back to try to kill Jill. Also I loved the decision making in the game. Me not having played it on the PS one, I loved it. I just wanted to see Nemesis in action. Although I do feel that Capcom could've at least updated the graphics on the game. The same with the RE 2 port. Also if you've played it on the PS one, there's nothing new here. So I would just reccomend it if you didn't play it on the PS one or if you're interested on how it would've worked on the gamecube.
Wow...sorry for those other people October 13, 2004 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
First of all..I'm going to do A quick thing about the price...
If you buy this game for more than $50.00...you just got ripped off. I recently went to my local Gamestop..and guess what...I found Resident Evil 2, 3, and Code: Veronica for a wopping...$40 each ( yes for gamecube)! I knew they were not going to be expensive..but I don't see how people put a huge price on it and call it *rare*
Anyway..I personally think this is a good addition to the series..and probably the easiest. It's also more action oriented..so that can either be a plus or minus. I just think its cool how they have Nemisis follow you around.
You may disagree with my review...but guess what...your talking to a guy who though Resident Evil: Survivor was DECENT.
Can't recommend this one September 2, 2004 5 out of 16 found this review helpful
First off: The Gamecube ports of RE2, RE3 and RE Code Veronica are not meant for vets who played them already on Playstation or Dreamcast. These are for newcomers to the series, Gamecube owners who started off with the REmake and RE0. Ignorant vets will be disappointed at the lack of new content.
I became an RE fan in the spring of 1996 when the first game in the series was new. I loved it and I couldn't wait for the sequel. When RE2 was finally announced, many fans were disappointed that it had two entirely new characters instead of reusing the characters from the first game. The director explained that every RE game had to have new characters, because the previous characters had already been through their share of horrors and were now hardened by them. I agreed with him 100%. So later when RE3 was announced and Jill from RE1 was the main character, that seeded my disdain for the game. It disappointed me that the creator didn't have the balls to stick to his guns, because he was right. Later I came to accept the rehashing of previous characters in RE games, but this was the first one to do it, and it annoyed me.
Eventually the game came out and I bought it. Another irking detail niggled me right out the gate; RE3 has no "normal" difficulty setting, which is what I always play my games on when given the choice. In this game, you have to choose between easy or hard. Easy is insultingly easy and hard is harder than I like. However, RE3 does have some great gameplay innovations such as the gunpowder based ammo creation system, and the defensive dodge move, which I really wished they'd put into all following games in the series. There are also several points where you have to choose between two possible actions, and the choice you make does have an effect on what happens next. The puzzles are fairly standard for an RE game.
RE3 does nothing to further the storyline. It's a complete sidetrack. I've always personally considered Code Veronica to be the true sequel to RE2, and RE3 to be a 'gaiden' (sidestory). Recently it's come out that this is the official truth, and the only reason Code Veronica wasn't given the title RE3 was because of the business relationship (or perhaps even actual contractual obligations) between Capcom and Sony. In some cases I would argue that if the gameplay itself is good, the story doesn't matter. But the fact is, RE1 set up Umbrella as the ultimate evil jerks who needed to be taken out, and RE2 did precious little to bring us closer to that goal. By the end of RE3, you're in exactly the same place RE2 left you, no closer to taking down the bad guys. Code Veronica, on the other hand, does indeed finally take the fight directly to Umbrella. And while I'm on the subject, I really have to question the wisdom of having RE4 take place in a world where Umbrella has already been taken out completely. That's one pleasure that DEFINITELY should have been given to the player.
To sum up: I'm an RE vet of eight years and I don't recommend RE3.
