3 out of 5 stars Thank's God is a rental.   February 12, 2008

I just rented this game a couple of days ago and even though I have not been playing much I am definetely not impresed at all. THe storyline is extremely bad. At least the story line in Final Fantasy X from PS2 was very good, fight to beat Sin or die. In here the characters are just a bunch of kids that want to be space pirates, that's all, so you go around other worlds collecting treasures, this is kind of childish. Also the fact that you have to use the pen all the time to move your troops is kind of anoying, sometimes I get some of the characters stuck in places and they just don't move until I click on them and move them separately. I really like the FFX games but this one is definetely not for me.

3 out of 5 stars In for a big suprise   February 9, 2008

This game is fast pace. However, at the end it really grinds down. At first the enemy being strong isn't a problem until they are 40 levels higher. Which leads to 10+ hours of level grinding at the last chapter which blows. Except for the last part the game is great.

4 out of 5 stars An unique sequel to a solid game   February 4, 2008
I originally bought this game to be able to complete my conquest of all games Final Fantasy. I had heard some bad things about it, but decided to give it a shot. I was first (pleasantly) surprised that it was a tactics-style game, but even more surprised when I realized that it was actually more of a real-time strategy RPG, with game play more like Starcraft than Final Fantasy Tactics. Although the combat system is fairly simplistic (your main characters have summoned units to help fight, and it's a rock-paper-scissors type of combat: flying, melee, and ranged units), it is actually quite enjoyable, and a GREAT way to kill time (a huge plus for a DS game). The graphics are on the upper-edge for the DS (especially the cut-scenes), and while the story seems a little more geared to a younger audience, it is still good for the older gamers. I haven't finished the game yet, but from what I've seen so far the story is well put together, and there is enough going on to keep you busy, including extra side-quests given like the "hunts" in Final Fantasy XII. If you're a Final Fantasy fan, it's a must have; if not, it is still a good game, but you may want to try it out first to see if it is something you'll enjoy.

3 out of 5 stars i don't get it....   January 31, 2008

i could not get into this game...i was expecting more of a traditional FF game...this was more like tactics or something. should have done my homework i suppose...

not my thing, would rate it lower but i suppose for what it is...it looks like it might be a good game.

if you are looking for anything like a traditional FF type of RPG, this ain't it. I'm surprised so many people like it....

4 out of 5 stars Fun game, not the typical FF gameplay   January 28, 2008
I'm a fan of the Final Fantasy series and when I had heard that it was coming out for the DS, I was very excited. However, I was a bit dismayed at the price of $40.00 for a DS game. I'm actually glad I didn't buy this game for the full price (bought it for $29.99).

Unlike other FF games, this is a real time strategy meaning that you have to create your own troops and give them actions (similar to games like Starcraft and Warcraft). It's much more complicated than the regular turn based strategy FF games usually have in store for gamers. Like all other Final Fantasy games, the production values are gorgeous - cutscenes, music, etc. However, the actual gameplay graphics are cartoonish and seem very pixelated. I wasn't impressed in that department. The story like all other FF stories is pretty good.

I've never played FF12 (but do plan to do so in the future) and I found myself enjoying the game nonetheless. In the beginning, I was a bit turned off by the gameplay but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty easy. The difficulty varies - some missions are almost impossible, while some are too easy. Leveling up helps to some extent, but not as much since the enemies' levels increase as your groups' levels increase. The storyline progresses quickly, but you have a bunch of sidequests (that unlock espers and other items) that prolong gameplay.

I think this game is worth getting if you're a final fantasy fan, I still the think the price is way too high for it to be worth buying (unless it drops back down to $29.99).
