ASUS Eee PC 900, 20GB July 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got the Eee to take to take on a trip to South America so I could download photos from my Nikon D200. I take raw+JPEG pictures that take about 22mb per photo. I also took a WD 320GB ext HD. System worked great. I downloaded 2-4 hundred photos per day to the HD. I was also able to view and show slide shows of the photos with the built in software on the Eee. An added bonus was the built-in word processing software allowed me to write notes about the photos takes that day.
Even better, the built in wi-fi allowed me to get email in the Lobby of several of the hotels
The only complaint I had was the download speeds were slower than I had been used to.
Even better than expected July 28, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Boots in no time. No crashes. Quite quiet. Tolerable battery life time. Weighs next to nothing.
Generally very good, though still have some problem. July 26, 2008 It is very very cool. Everything is PERFECT except:
1. The linux system is way too simple and do not have enough packages to compile softwares, that is, you have to install these packages with pain. But anyway, there is lots of sources of open sources compiled softwares for eeepc to use online.
2. Don't install KDE desktop from Xandros or Debian sources, which is incompatible with the machine and make you machine down. Use the Tuxfamily's source.
3. It only support SD/MMC cards. Support SDHC card poorly that sometimes destroy your card.

i ASUS Eee PC 900 20G (8.9" Display, 900 MHz Intel Mobile CPU, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB Solid State Drive, Linux, 4 Cell Battery) Galaxy Black
After reading reviews for a couple of weeks, I purchased a eeepc900. i was happy with the size and the quality of the screen image, but linux is just useless. i had no idea that there are so many things you can't do, and the eeepc seems impossible to upgrade without first adding windows xp, which i'll do next week. anyway, i think asus is a terrible company because after just two weeks of this 900 version, they put out a 16g version, with xp, for $150 less than i paid. there's no way to return mine, because by the time i pay the restocking fee, i've already lost the money. i really, really wish i had waited for a MSI. dont buy eeepc. i made a mistake with this purchase.
A great portable computer July 19, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great, cheap portable computer. It is light, fast and does exactly what I need it to do. I wanted something to write, read email, and watch shows on the train. Perfect.
