4 out of 5 stars Good enough for the price   November 24, 2008
If you like the style of the traditional cameras (and not the usual small "cigarette-box" size) or just don't want to spend a lot on a professional device, this is right for you. Enjoy the great quality from a known brand (Fuji), take pictures in many customized formats or record your own videos with sound. This is my 3rd Fuji camera and they keep on doing things better everyday.

5 out of 5 stars Nothing but good!   November 23, 2008
Love this camera! I've seen others that are far larger and more expensive that don't take near the quality of photos- and videos! Recently during my daughter's musical, no flash cameras allowed. This camera did awesome under low light conditions. Many extra features with keep me interested for a long time learning and using!!

4 out of 5 stars Better than Fuji S3800   November 23, 2008
This is my second Fuji Camera, my first was a Fuji S3800 with 6X optical
The S1000 is a litle more complicated to use, just to many opcions, plus the manual is very small and all the information are in the CD. IS a real good for the price and the zoom is fantastic

2 out of 5 stars i usually dont leave review but with this i HAVE to   November 22, 2008

I usually dont leave reviews, however with this I HAD to. Although I had never owned a Fuji camera before, I bought it based on the reviews from various websites. I have had Sony, Casio and Canon camera's before but it was time to upgrade my Megapixels and also have more user changeable settings.

PRO's
* Looks nice
* Lightweight
* Cheap
* Supports SDHC
* Uses standard AA batteries

CONs
* Color is horrible! No matter what mode your in or how you change the settings, the color is always off.
* Whitebalance settings do NOT work properly. Sure changing the whitebalance settings changes the colors, but from bad to worse!
* Even on the highest quality setting and the best ISO, the image is still grainy and not sharp. Hard to believe it is actually 10 Megapixel.
* Extremely slow response (I have kids and need the shutter to work the second I press the button.)

I tried playing with the settings for 2 days to get the picture quality I wanted. I had to change settings continuously to get a picture to come out "decent." Since the AUTO setting was poor, it was too cumbersome to take pictures. I had to take the camera back and ended up spending more for a 10 Megapixel Canon Powershot. The Canon is slightly bigger and heavier but well worth it. I figured that it is an investment spending more for a higher quality image, especially if oyu have kids. You cannot put a price on memories. I am completely satisfied with the image quality and functionality of the Canon.

4 out of 5 stars Solid Starter Camera   November 22, 2008

I think this is a really good starter digital camera. Since it comes with manual controls if gives you the best of both worlds. I've been using it for student photo projects and it works really well. I was using Olympus & Polaroid cameras before and they do not compare. I like the sturdiness, look and feel and the simplified on screen menu and the listed features are truly great especially at this price. It gives it's more expensive counterparts a run for their money. I must (surprisingly) say that I am now a Fujifilm fan. If you are looking for a step up from film, a step down from an SLR for beginner's or photo student use, this solid starter camera is for you. I don't think you will be disappointed.

The only downside is that it doesn't come with a carrying case or memory card, look for a kit for a better deal.
