Not as good as SMW2: Yoshi's Island November 4, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Yoshi's Island for the SNES was a great game. This game is an ok game. What's different? Yoshi's Island DS is a difficult game. The SNES YI is easy to beat, but so fun that you will spend hours trying to get 100 on all the levels. YI DS will leave you either happy just barely getting through the level or just getting frustrated and turning the game off. What I miss most from the first game are the items. The items collected in mini-games made the mini-games worth playing. In YI DS the mini-games are harder, less enjoyable, and only get you coins and extra lives. Speaking of lives, you can get more than 100 in YI DS making getting extra lives pointless. Like many of nintendo's sequels lately (except the wonderful New SMB) it is an ok, playable game, but only if you've never played the original.
Pretty good game October 23, 2007 I liked this game alot. It was the first game i bought for my Nintendo DS. Although the sound can get a little annoying, it is still a fun game. I have not beat it yet and I have had it for about a month now. I recommend you buy this if it is one of your first games. It might be too easy for experienced people.
As with the first game, good for a while, but decends into bore. October 18, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I liked this game to begin with. The graphics are simply gorgeous and shows off what the DS is capable of perfectly. The gameplay is, to begin with, easy and imaginative. But it it quickly gives way to tedium by about the third level.
The problem is that it doesn't really change much and you end up doing more or less the same damn thing in every level. There became less and less need for me to go back to the game. I like new things to constantly crop up and develop through the course of a video game, even in a simple kid's game such as this.
Much like the original Yoshi's Island, that I played on my GBA, this game starts off great with loads of color and cuteness, but fails to keep it all interesting.
Excelente juego! mas no perfecto September 21, 2007 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Sequel to the best mario game ever June 7, 2007 A sequel to a classic game, Yoshi's Island DS does a lot right. Still has the same feel, tight controls, graphic style, and about everything else the orginal had while still remaning different. However, considering that I hold the orginal to be one of the best (if not the best) platformer game ever, its still not quite up to par as the orginal.
With the addition of new babies, and the abilities they grant, some seem to be forced into gameplay more then others. While they do add a lot to the gameplay, it almost comes off as "use this one here, now switch, use this one to continue", as opposed to actual exploring or figuring out the levels for yourself. Also, the level design isn't quite as good as the original... Although the levels are huge and fairly challenging, there just seems to be something slightly lacking from the first game. Some tend to drag on a bit too long, others are aggrivating and annoying...
Even despite these gripes, this is still a solid title and a great game. if you loved the first one, then you will more then enjoy this game. if you haven't played the original, then this is a game deffinatly worth your money. Just make sure to pick up the original or the gba remake at some point in time as well. You won't be disapointed.
