The graphics are excellent all around so let's get that settled right out of the gate. There's some loading time of a few seconds when walking between scenes, but its not terrible.
I like turn-based combat so I thought this would be a good game to buy. Unfortunately the pacing of the combat is too slow to be enjoyable. You cannot skip past the scene at the beginning of every battle and you cannot make the battle animations go faster (as one could with Enchanted Arms). So be prepared to sit thru a whole bunch of combat animations again and again. Overall, the combat is fun and it offers a decent challenge, but Lost Odyssey doesnt do anything new with the combat either.
Annoying are the occasional stealth and "puzzle" missions which are just pointless. They aren't fun and the game would be better off without them.
The story is interesting enough with some nice plot twists (no spoilers will be made here) but the villain is utterly predicable too. Its a shame the story couldnt come up with a better villain.
It really is a 3 star-rating Japanese RPG. You already know if you want this game or not, but I do urge you to wait until the price goes down to 25 bucks since that's what it is worth.

Initially on release I was very excited about this title, I had high hopes for the Mistwalker stable, and despite not being a DragonQuest fan enjoyed my romp through Blue Dragon. On loading the graphics and voice acting were impressive, and I felt that, while sometimes tipping into melodrama, the dreams were a compelling part of the story.
I actually had to stop playing the game when I reached the regenerating worm monster boss (very early on in game play). The combat system irritated me, and after multiple failures (and several heated discussions with my more avid gamer husband) I put the game away. I am not exactly naive to RPGs, have played all the FF games, am a rapid Tri-Ace fan, and have other favorite titles, including the Elder Scrolls series. My personal style does involve some grinding, as with my schedule sometimes if I grind for my hour of gameplay every night for a week, I can complete a major battle without my fingernails gripping the controller and my nerves being overset. This particular title made grinding close to impossible, and I got more frustration than pleasure out of it.
It was visually stunning, however, and I wish that my husband had completed it so that I could have watched, but he had other complaints with the game.

i am a Final Fantasy fan. one of the producer who worked for some of the Final Fantasy series/Square Enix decided to move on his own. So he now works for Mistwalker and created this "Lost Odyssey" for microsoft xbox360. I was well impressed with the amazing story. If you are into Final Fantasy, I recommend you to play this game. Its WORTH IT!!!

From the beginning of the game you will notice how similar Lost Odyssey is to Final Fantasy 10 (one of my favorites of all time). The battle system keeps you involved by introducing the Ring system which allows you to add extra status/damage to your physical attacks. Graphics are on par with other 360 RPGs and the score is slightly above average. The aspect where this game fails the most are with its "Dream sequences". They are supposed to enhance the story by adding some background knowledge of the main character; however, all they do is waste time. Each one requires at least 5 minutes of reading, and that's at a fairly fast pace. Now I've played many RPGs and I don't mind the occasional lengthy script to read, but this is just ridiculous. There are several dozen of these "Dreams" that you uncover throughout the game. I found myself simply mashing X to get through these dull sequences to get back to the main story.
Overall Lost Odyssey is an 8 on a scale of 10. If they removed the Dream sequences and added a few more side quests this could be an improved game. I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of FF10 or RPGs in general.
Imagine Final Fantasy 7 with current generation dazzle September 20, 2008

After seeing Gamespot's score on this game and because I have grown out of the turn-based rpg combat and am a fan of real-time action rpgs, I only expected this to be a mediocre filler game until better games come out. Boy was I wrong.
This was the first rpg I've played in nearly ten years that allowed me to experience the same immersive and engrossing feel I had when I played FF7 and FF8. Actually this game reminds me of FF7 and FF8 in everyway, except with significant enhancements. Well this isn't surprising since it is made from the Final Fantasy team.
Therefore the best way to describe this game is: Imagine Final Fantasy 7 or 8 with much improved graphics, much more interactive environments that feels alive, a very deep story on par or superior to FF7, and music that beats all Final Fantasy games to date.
Gamespot said this game is old fashioned, with little innovation. But this really shouldn't be a negative thing if it is good ol fashioned like FF7 and FF8.
Although I don't like turn-based battles, I actually found the battle system in this game enjoyable.
The music in this title is probably Nobuo Uematsu's (Final Fantasy series composer) best work so far. It is absolutely beautiful and fits in perfectly with the specific settings.
The English voice acting is actually good in this game. It's much better than the annoying voice acting in FF 10, which I always wished could be disabled.
The load times in some areas can be somewhat long, which is what most reviews bash on. However, with the Fall 08 Xbox 360 update, you can install the game on the harddrive and all load time issues will be gone.
If you are sick of the kiddy type JRPGs of late (Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, Blue Dragon, etc.) and want to play a JRPG with a great story, this is a great game to pick up. I am surprised to find that this game, an Xbox 360 game, replaced FF7 and Chrono Trigger as my all time favorite RPG.
