3 out of 5 stars Good Titles, Poor Support   July 11, 2008

Supposedly price cut to $299 is imminent (7/2008).

Lots of interesting titles to buy, unfortunately my experience with Microsoft's Xbox support has led me to (unsuccessfully) try not to buy any. After RROD return, which was easy enough, the unit shipped back to me was DOA (no video). Getting MS to acknowledge that was hard, they wanted me to buy new video cables etc. Tech I spoke to was clearly a newbie, reading from a script. No option to do it all online. Turnaround time was very slow. Very disappointing and frustrating, overall.

My recent experience with Sony was better.

5 out of 5 stars The reviews are outdated, the 360 is finally amazing!   July 11, 2008

****I'M COMPARING MY OLD 360 WITH A NEW 360, SO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR READING****

A year or so ago I got a 360, mine was loud, hot, and RROD (red ring of death)'d in 2 weeks. Yes, it sucked back then. Well, I decided to take another shot last week. My new 360 was impressive to say the least.
First, the noise, it was quiet, actually quiet! Okay so i could hear it when I turned but as soon as I popped in CoD4 I couldn't hear anything but the game.
I also noticed the picture is clearer, it runs smoother, and this isn't my tv, I had the same tv back then and the same connection, same everything.
After messing around with the many many options such as custom log-in characters, custom backgrounds for the main menus and the dashboard that pops up in-game or for advanced options on the start-up menu.
Everything about the 360 is sexy and futuristic, all the bleeps and graphics that pulse through the screen, all this without even putting in a game.
Included in the package was a wireless remote (with included duracell batteries 2 AAs)which has been running for hours on end for about a week and haven't gone past the half way mark yet. Connector cables and an ethernet cable, my only gripe about the ethernet cable is that its short, i had to buy a new one that was longer, theres no way im scraping out $90 for a wireless bridge.
Okay, on to the heating issue, this was a big problem with my old 360, an hour or less in it was steaming, too hot to touch at first. I had to turn it off every hour and a half because it got to hot and to loud. Today I played nonstop for 6 hours (on GTAIV) and it mildy hot, just a little heat, just enough to notice that you had your hand on it.
And finally, the RROD? I don't know yet, i'm sure it won't be a problem.

5 out of 5 stars Great Machine even after several years!   July 10, 2008

Just purchased the PRO...and this machine is still the best buy and has the best online play capabilities. My brother and I just started playing Rainbox Six Vegas online and the experience is the closest I've seen to online play via the PC. Getting use to the controller still over a mouse and keyboard but I'm getting better each time...wish Microsoft would release a better FPS friendly control solution since the current third party solutions do not support analog type movement like the gamepad provides.

Otherwise, this machine is really good and the graphics are stunning and above or on par with the PS3 in every game I've seen so far. Plus the controllers are much better than the sony style gamepads in my opinion...especially for First Person Shooters since it isn't easy to begin with if your an old PC/mouse kind of player.

4 out of 5 stars great system but not the best   July 6, 2008

i own both the xbox 360 and the ps3 and have had fun with both but the ps3 is the superior console. the graphics on both consoles are amazing, i can't say if either one is better in that field. other than that the ps3 has a lot more to offer such as, blu ray player, internet browser, bigger hard drive, and free online gaming. xbox 360 offers great gaming and cool tv episodes and movies you can download(for a price) but not much else. they even charge you for online gaming(about 8 bucks a month). my xbox 360 has been collecting dust since i bought my ps3. you should just pay the extra 50 dollars and get a ps3.
