Awesome Environment - Fun to Play June 25, 2008 The game has no real difficulty setting so I won't comment as to whether or not you will find it difficult or not - probably depends upon how many games you play and how well. I will say that the interactive environment is one of the best I have seen and a major feature of fun factor in this game. Almost any wall can be scaled and you can surf across rooftops as you like.
The game has less of a strategy component than other RPGs and the mission style is pretty linear. Every mission is some sort of assassination so they can become pretty repetitive. Some of the later missions seemed much easier than I would have thought that they should be - especially in comparison to earlier missions.
The story is pretty cool and draws just enough facts from history to remain plausible. The graphics are great and controls not too hard to get used to. My only complaint - and it is a common one these days - is that the ending is setting up for a sequel and nothing else. The storyline doesn't end when the game does.
Buy the game, have fun with the environment and try solving the missions in different ways. I found, when I went back, that many missions can be accomplished in varying ways and some were much easier than others.
Just good enough to really tick me off June 19, 2008 A really bad game is somehow forgivable because you don't waste much time on it (though maybe you do waste money). This game is just good enough that I feel compelled to finish it, even though it is really annoying me in the process. Anyway, to the review:
The good
The graphics are quite good, breathtaking at times. The story is very good, leading the player to question the morality of what is happening.
The bad
The gameplay is very repetitive; each assassination mission is basically the same.
The controls are VERY clunky (combat, movement, looking around), which would be less frustrating in a stealth game (at least the combat part), but is maddening in THIS game.
Apparently, the best way to not get noticed is to walk much slower than the people around you (this is blending in I gather). It is not, however, a good way to make a game interesting.
Crazy people and beggars apparently make great cops. You can walk by actual soldiers and such unnoticed, but crazy people will always hit you (they don't hit anyone else) and beggars will always hassle you (they don't follow anyone else). How do they know? If you want to play a game where you get beat up by crazy people and hassled by beggars, you'll really enjoy this game. If that's you, though... I don't know what to say.
Summary
The problem with new consoles is that game makers can get caught up in their new toy and forget to make a good game. That's what happened here...
Worth playing June 18, 2008 This game was definitely worth playing. I have played it all the way through and this isn't based on first impressions. Pros and cons:
Pros: -Outstanding graphics -Good storyline with a few plot twists -Game isn't too short, but not too long and drawn out -Freedom of movement in your environment is great -Weapon selection seems limited, but has everything you need (short, medium and long range) -Checkpoints are perfectly timed so you don't have to spend hours re-doing a mission if you die -AI responses are above average (however they are repetitive) -Game is challenging but not impossible -No loading screens for the most part, they at least let you run around in a matrix-esque void (keeps you occupied)
Cons: -All missions are basically the same, which is kind of expected given that you're sole mission as an assassin is to kill a guy, but there really could have been more variation here -By the end of the game, you can be tired of doing things over and over again (climbing viewpoints, saving people, etc...) -Saved citizens only have about 3 different lines -The guys that "help" after you save citizens are just annoying -The flag gathering missions for informers are dumb and not relevant to the game -You drown instantly in water (very annoying for one particular mission) -The horse riding is very cool, but the only flaw is that the physics are a bit off when jumping objects
Personal Likes/Dislikes: -Blood. There is a lot. Come on, you have to agree that seeing a guy get a knife stuck in his skull and hearing it crack when ripped out is cool. -My favorite part was jumping 3 stories down into a courtyard with my assassin blade and landing directly on my target for the kill... then followed a barrage of 25 guards coming to attack. -What pissed me off the most were the amount of mentally insane guys on the streets. They are EVERYWHERE! I hate them because they always hit you, it's so friggin annoying. Come on, there couldn't be that many derranged people back then could there? -It's very fun to grab beggars and throw them into walls/people/whatever (hell it's even an achievement to toss 20 of them haha) -The opening video before the title screen is pretty sweet. However there is no crossbow weapon, which was only slightly disappointing. -How the storyline switches from modern times to the crusades is kind of annoying. I know it sets up for the AC2, but it's really a waste of time in my opinion.
This is a fun game, replayability isn't too high though. You can spend hours upon hours looking for flags and the Teutonic Knights to kill, but I garuntee you'll need a strategy guide to get them all. I rented this game and beat it in a few days. I loved it, recommend playing it for sure!
Keeper Of The Creed June 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this game was a step into something that has not been seen in prior video games, The ultimate control is amazing, if you see it, you can climb it! As far as the game itself, Its beautifully detailed and damn near realistic. The games plot is simple, find your target and eliminate him. But behind this almost simple plot lies a lesson learned, Well kinda. I will not delve into the story as to not spoil it for those who have yet to play it. The actual gameplay was surprisingly effective, although in some tight spots fleeing and fighting proved difficult. The idea that you can climb whatever you want adds to the games formula, you can be stealthy and attack like an eagle to its prey, or you can charge right in like a raging bull! There is plenty to do in the limited but vast lands provided, collect flags, climb viewpoints, and uncover secrets and information on your current targets. The cities are rather impressive, size and detail wise. The citizens are a at times a hassle, for example, when your trying to outrun guards there will be countless citizens in your way, women carrying pots, drunks, beggars, and psychos. Some missions require absolute stealth and having these citizens in your way will make the task at hand almost impossible! The game has many great aspects going for it, But a few minor things still do not hinder what a wonderful breath of fresh air assassins creed delivers, After all, what game is without some flaws?
Good. June 9, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I don't like too much this game, but whenever I play this, I play about 1 hour.
