Definately a winner April 27, 2008 I purchased this game after going through so many games that seemed to be nothing more than a flop for me. And I am pleasantly surprised! The graphics are amazing, the storyline is interesting and the concept is easy to understand. Even my 5 year old is enjoying it. There are a few points where he needs assistance, but other than that he's enjoying it just as much as I am. Even my husband finds himself "backseat driving" from the couch! It's the classic Mario; a blast from the past. He jumps up and bashes boxes, hops on turtles, and catches flying coins. But there is a little twist in this game that makes it even better than the origional. He can flip between 2D and 3D, making your perspective look different. Thus showing you secret passways and revealing tunnels to get you through when you really thought all hope was lost. But make sure your not in the 3D for too long, or you will loose life. (Approx any longer than 30 seconds) I would hands down reccomend this game to anyone looking for something fun and out of the ordinary "shoot 'em up" games. Excellant for children (in my opinion ages 5 and up) and adults as well. Have fun!
Not for smaller kids! April 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Okay, I admit that I personally am not video game savvy, so maybe there is some prejudice here. But my 7-year old grandson plays video games all the time, so I think I can speak for him.
From what we could tell from the time we loaded this game is that there is a lot of reading required. And I don't mean short instructional type info. They want you to get the whole story and the whole background of whatever is happening but it is wa-a-ay too indepth and complicated to keep the interest of a 7-year old, not to mention the vocabulary (including character names) are often well beyond that of a child.
Luckily, I only paid 19.99 for this game as an Amazon special. I am hoping I can sell it to someone and at least get back some of this cost. In the future, I will be sure and read the reviews before I take the (E)rating as meaning that it is kid-friendly.
Another great Wii game April 7, 2008 I am so glad we decided to buy the Wii. This game is is one of those reasons. It is like the old Super Marios, but it is more involved and is a blast to sit and play. My kids can play because it isn't to hard, but they still have to figure out how to do certain things to advance, so it keeps them interested. Great game.
A great game for kids... who can read. March 29, 2008 A very fun game. Nothing like mario in the 2d setting... just nostalgic. I'm not a quick player so i'm pretty sure people can go through this game in a day but its an easy game to just pick up and play for a bit and set it back down. The puzzles aren't drawn out to long periods of time which allows this. There's a lot of dialogue who gives you hints on how to beat the level. Never played the first paper mario but compared to the older marios, it's not a straight 2D side panning race to the end. With different puzzles, which some involve information gathering from locals... you get stuck on some parts if you're like me who tries to skip dialogue cuz they're fillers to waste time. The plot is simple and short and though the levels seem to be from a cookie cutter set, expands from the previous marios with 3d pathways.
excellent March 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
No matter how many times I play Mario, it never ceases to amaze me. Played this with some friends and we couldn't stop laughing at it's silliness yet awesome fun factor. Recommended for all ages.
