Sweetness March 25, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is sweet, I'm a fairly regular gamer and I like to play video games, mostly sports and shooters. My girlfriend on the other hand is not a gamer at all, I mean pretty much the farthest thing from a gamer but as soon as she played this once she was absolutely hooked, now all I hear is " Can we play mario party?," "Do you wanna play a game of mario party?"
One of my Favorites March 16, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game is an awesome game which lets you play on 6 different party boards and 81 different mini-games. It has 5 different play modes like the mini-game tent, the extras zone, and my favorite, the party tent. There are a lot of great mini-games, but I think the duel mini-games are the best. There are also tons of things you can unlock in the fun bazaar. Overall, one of my favorite games.
Debes tenerlo!!!! March 11, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Fun, but there are some caveats. March 10, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Mario party games are a lot of fun for a group of people to play. The mini games are usually pretty well thought out, the graphics are cartoon-y and appealing, and the board game approach works. This game does a good job of bring the interactivity of the Wii and the party style of the original 7 party games together.
That being said, I guess my only complaint is, apart from the new Wii control scheme, nothings really changed. You still have to sit through computer players turns, the graphics haven't really been updated, and the "single player" is tedious and not worth your time.
However, I still highly recommend this game for the Wii because of the multiplayer. This system is supposed to be a "party" experience and this game is very fun with a big group. The learning curve is almost non-existent, I was able to get my grandparents playing this game in less than an hour. Get this game and invite your friends over. You'll be entertained for hours.
As always, fun with friends March 9, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Pros: Beautiful graphics, improved mini games which utilize both Wii and traditional controls, fun boards.
Cons: Not much fun without friends, not terribly innovative, the Mii games are no good.
Mario Party games almost defy conventional reviewing. The minigames are simplistic and many of them often involve repetitive button mashing. Winning a board is often based as much on luck as skill and the plots are so thin that you can see straight through them. Still, these games are consistently just plain fun, provided that you have a partner or group to play with. This makes them more praise worthy than many games which, on the surface, seem like better picks.
Mario Party 8 follows the traditional formula, but is, I believe, the best Mario Party yet. To begin with, Mario and the gang look great on the Wii. I didn't think that much more could be done with this simplistic graphics style, but both the characters and boards are beautiful. The mini games are also a lot more fun than in many previous installments. Some of them use Wii motion sensing and for some you turn the Wii remote sideways and use it like a conventional controller, but they are nearly all fun. The Wii controller allows for a much broader range of minigames and the games where you mindlessly mash buttons are gone.
Winning Mario Party is still about as much luck as in the earlier games, but the boards have some really nice concepts behind them and much of the frustration that the other games caused is taken away by minimizing Bowser's role, although I rather miss the character spaces.
One of my biggest problems with this game is that the extras are not all that they could be. There need to be more features that you can purchase with cards earned and the Mii games which are probably a selling point for lots of people eager to use their Miis are no good at all.
Mario Party 8 isn't the type of game that is going to shake up the industry or send hardcore gamers running for the shelves, but it is the best in the series and should offer a lot of fun for people looking to play with friends.
