5 out of 5 stars Star fox has now made it's own genre!   November 7, 2006

Star fox and his team are back in this expolsive...strategy!? Well kind of, but it's got regular fighting! This one is all about...fun! in which it lacks. It has it's fun levels, and it's dumb levels! But even the dumb levels aren't bad. you have a bunch of diferrent paths to take, And they lead to a differant ending, I thought that was cool. There are a bunch of differant charecters, including: falco, slippy, bill, amanda (Slippy's fiance), Dash, katt, wolf, panther, leon, krystal, and of coarse fox. The ending's are kind of dumb, but don't let that scare you! Over all a great game. Oh! I forgot to tell you! The Wi-fi feature is pretty sweet! The problem I had with it was that you can only earn points for your rep by doing_Battle royale_ in which you fight four people and while it doesn't matter which rank the people your fighting is. So you can be a rank Z while the person your fighting its a rank A. Now hears some tip's on the wifi mode! You start out as a Rank Z, and the only way you can get a higher rank is by competing in battle royale. When you get into the arena, you need to boost to the middle to get the stelth( the one that is a triangle with purple edges), then you will be invisible. Then while your invisible you need to get the plasma shot(the one with red wings). Then your ready to get to battle! Locking on is a great strategy! So do it!

I give this game an over all five becuase of it's wifi battle! So get a copy and mabye I'll see you in the feild! Oh yeah you don't get to vote for the place you battle! But it's still a great game!

4 out of 5 stars Short but Sweet   November 5, 2006
I've been a big fan of the Star Fox series since the original version on the SNES [with the FX Chip!] and the Nintendo 64. I did skip the Gamecube world, but when I was given a DS for a birthday, I decided to try out the DS edition.

Obviously, with the DS Platform being handheld, it is not fair to compare it to the console versions. With that said, this review will revolve around it's actual performance as a handheld game.

With that said, the gameplay for Star Fox Command is NOT like the console versions. It is very simple in the way of controls. You have but one function for all of the buttons, and that is fire for your lasers [which is nice for right hand people because you can control the stylus with the right and fire with the left]. You control roll, boost, brake, bomb, and movements with the touchscreen. At first it will feel a bit odd, but you can quickly get used to it and realize how efficent it is.

The story line is soft, but if you look at the past Star Fox has been fairly light. Nothing too deep or complex. The main reason for the 'weak' story line from many of the other reviews is the fact that the game is relatively short. I think I finished the game in about 5 hours of gameplay the first time. This includes learning it and restarting it once I had. The bonus is, you can replay it to go through different routes in the story, giving it replay value as well. You can even unlock a hidden system.

Mutliplayer can be fun, but make sure you finish the game through to improve on your flying skills before hand. Jumping into Multiplayer can be hazardous to ones' self esteem! It can be challenging when playing against more advanced players. They also have the choice of playing in a ranked match or simply enjoy the world of off-the-record gameplay.

This game was very good, and did bring back memories of the old days. I personally love the lack of voice over, which would be a waste of memory since it's easy reading.

Recommended? - YES

3 out of 5 stars by normal Star Fox standards, it falls short   November 4, 2006

I must be the only one to think the graphics are pretty weak. I really liked the graphics on the original Super NES Star Fox, but something about the way the game looks here is pretty ugly.

The actual "flying around and shooting" aspect is okay. It's not as interesting as in the original Star Fox, however. Nintendo usually delivers with nonstop excellent gameplay, so I'm not sure what happened here. Maybe the game was rushed.

I guess if you like Star Fox you will like this game to a certain extent, but prepare yourself for disappointment as the amount of action and the enjoyment value overall isn't quite as high as you'd expect from an excellent company like Nintendo.

1 out of 5 stars Poor controls, boring missions   October 22, 2006

Maybe it's just a matter of taste, but I couldn't get into the control scheme. I found it frustrating and painful. That aside the actual missions that I played - though I admit I gave the game away before I got very far - were pretty boring. Fly around in an open environment (pretty much 100% open, no nothing) and shoot 2-6 droids.

I suggest playing the game yourself before buying - you really need to know what you're getting into.

1 out of 5 stars What a waste!   October 21, 2006

I just bought this game last week, and I can get past level 1, but I can't figure out level 2. I tried many times to beat that level, but it is impossible to beat. The enemy formations on the screen where you make your paths with the stylus and use the turns to get to where you want to go keep on hitting The Great Fox and killing it. I have tried everything to try to get through that level, but I just can't beat it. I got so frustrated that I just gave up. I wish that the game was more like the original Star Fox from the Super Nintendo or Star Fox 64 from the Nintendo 64 because those games were so much easier and more fun to play. I would much rather play those two versions of Star Fox than Star Fox Command for the Nintendo DS because this one is a total waste of money, and I don't think that I would recommend it. Overall, I think that Fox has hit rock bottom with this installment of the series, and I think that it should stop right there. I wish that I could get my money back because I don't like this game at all.
