4 out of 5 stars I'm a 23-year-old guy, and this is actually one of my favorite DS platformers!   June 28, 2007

If you can get past the fact that this game really IS too cute for its own good, you'll discover that Super Princess Peach is every bit as immersive as any other Mario platformer.

The levels do get a bit repetitive, yes, but what Mario game ISN'T repetitive? I mean, you're bound to get bored from time to time while you just keep jumping around and running to the right side of the screen until you get to the end.

That being said, Super Princess Peach is designed with the same kind of "tiered" accessibility. The way I see it, the gameplay will be as fun, complex and/or involved as you make it. You CAN beat the game without unlocking a single minigame or extra puzzle... but you can also beat New Super Mario Bros by only hitting worlds 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8. Half the fun is spending the extra time in each of the levels trying to find the hidden stuff.

(Word to the wise: spend the extra time finding all 3 Toads in each level while you're IN the levels... because you'll need to find them before you can get into the final world.)

Getting back to the game itself... Although I balked at the weird touch-screen "mood" icons in the beginning, it actually takes a certain level of skill to hit a mood, move the D-pad, and maybe press another button at the same time. And the changing moods are a PERFECT way to integrate the touch screen without making it feel shoehorned-in or without a real purpose (like New Super Mario Bros).

I agree with the other reviewers who found the Umbrella side-plot to be contrived and a waste of time. Who cares how the umbrella came to be if you don't actually DO anything about it, you know? At times I felt like those cut-scenes were being used to pad out the gameplay time and make the game feel longer.

All things considered, though, Super Princess Peach is a welcome diversion from some of the more intense games in my collection (Trauma Center, anyone?). Although some of the levels do look really gay, it really is a legitimate platformer that easily holds up against New Super Mario Bros and any of the Super Mario Advance games.

Oh, and I love the constipated look on Peach's face when you touch the Fire icon to make her burst into flames. That's one hell of a hot flash!

5 out of 5 stars A really great game.   June 26, 2007

I was a little apprehensive about a game based on Princess Peach, but it was really really fun, and enough different that it wasn't just another Mario game (although I love those too). My only (very minor) complaint is Princess Peach's voice, which was a little annoying. What else could you expect from her though? Oh, and a side-story that went seemingly nowhere. But honestly, I had a lot of fun playing it, and even my husband, who rarely plays games, has been enjoying it.

5 out of 5 stars Peach To The Rescue!!!!   June 14, 2007

Oh! I love this game!!!! In this game, Mario, Luigi, and Toad have been kidnapped and are held captive by Bowzer and his accomplices. The game is ironic, usually in all of the classic Mario games, you see Peach getting captured by Bowzer. In the game, the setting is called Vibe Island. On this island, there are 8 worlds in the game, each with to 5 stages, the last one, the boss stage. (In other words, the boss is the king or the controller of all the land and everyone and everything in the certain level.)Also, what mystical device lies there is the Vibe Skepter. This can cast spells. The spell results in special emotions, or vibes. These vibes control it's keeper(s) life and brings forth chaos. They are: Joy, Rage, Calm, and Gloom. These vibes are also Peach's 4 vibes.

Joy: Peach forms a cyclone, which whirls away any enemy and also with the calm vibe she can fly her way through the air.
Rage: Flames will surround Peach.
Gloom: Peach will start weeping.....having waterfalls come out of her eyes, the tears can help grow plants.
Calm: Peach becomes invisible and becomes a ball of light, healing her heart power. (health.)

Along with Peach is her umbrella named Perry. Perry helps Peach along the way to solve difficult puzzels, using vibes, defeating enemies, and battling bosses. You use your mic and stylus from the toad minigames to to each world.

While you are defeating each stage in all of the 8 worlds, you have your HP or heart power or health. Also, your Vibe Gauge. Whatever amount is in your Vibe Guage is the amount you can use your vibes. Get crystals to fill up your Vibe Gauge or absorb enemies.

Other cool features include abilities, which you can buy at the shop. With new abilities, Peach learns new strategies and actions to successfully complete stages. There is also the menu where you build a puzzle, (you can find them in the stages or buy them at the shop.), listen to music form all of the 8 worlds, look at the glossary to intake information about all of the enemies, play 3 mingames starring Toad, and glance at Perry's dreams in retrospect.

Well, overall, I LOVE this game and would give the games 5 *****!!!! Go Super Princess Peach!!!

One more thing, has anyone completed the game? If so, can someone help me with one of the stages? I need help on 8-4 or on Bowzer's Villa, stage 4. I need help with the the getting out of the level with the purple pipes and with the the boxes with the arrows on them, which turn red and green. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, thank goodness. : ) I would LOVE to finish the game. : ) If anyone would like to help, just please say so in your review. Help is appreciated. Thanks, Jewlery Freak.

4 out of 5 stars An Ingenius Role Reversial (by Laura)   June 7, 2007

This is a comically interesting game as it answers the tantalizing question: What if the hero is the victim, and the victim is the hero? Personally, I smile upon games like this. I mean why should a beautiful princess always the target of the kidnapping, rather than the heroic plumber? Apparently Nintendo wondered the same thing, which resulted in this. Now Bowser get a taste of girl power, a bitter pill that's hard to swallow! Like in my other reviews, I will give you the bad and the good, in that order.

The Bad:

1. The game is slightly too easy in some areas. It isn't the hardest to beat, due to the fact it's rather basic and straightforward

2. No real closure on the second storyline. I see two storylines in this game. The first storyline is that Mario and Luigi, as well as a bunch of toads, have been kidnapped and it's up to Peach, and a talking umbrella named Perry, to save them. The second storyline features the mystery of Perry himself. After all, it's rare for umbrellas to talk, even in the Mushroom Kingdom. There isn't a very good way to explain this, seeing as it would spoil the story (I'm not too huge on spoilers), but it lacks closure. You will learn things about him throughout the game, a couple of facts may even surprise you! Truth to be told, though, Perry's problems are never resolved in this game (perhaps Nintendo wishes to make another game to wrap that up). Which is a letdown.

3. Peach picks now to develop emotional powers after all of the times she's been kidnapped? Maybe this is merely because she is on Vibe Island, but I can't help but suspect that maybe we girls are being made fun of... It also doesn't make sense that with all these powers she couldn't defend herself from a spike shelled turtle all of those years ago...

The Good:

1. I think that this game may give girls some respect! I mean, why should a girl always be the one whose kidnapped? This game helps teach that even boys sometimes stumble.

2. Good stylus fun! There are many mini games and 'events before boss fights' that require the stylus. These games are oddly fun!

3. Peaches vibe powers are fun to use! Peach can either cry with the gloom vibe, start fires with the anger vibe, fly with the joy vibe, or even heal herself with the calm vibe. It's entertaining, and the music forces itself to match with the current vibe.

4. Teaches basic problem solving, including puzzles. What will give you a hard time in this game, is you will need to think outside of the box once in a while. Some problems are simply solved, but the idea is difficult to come up with! Your problem solving skills will surely be fostered!

5. Areas are various. You can be on a beach one second, and be in a glacier the next!

6. The bosses are fun, and require their own bits of strategy.

7. You can see every enemy you have creamed in the glossary, or listen to music you managed to pick up in the game!

Overall, this is a fun game! It has the Mario touch, with the right new twists to make it an entertaining, groovy, and maybe even a touch humorous game. I recommend it to all ages!

5 out of 5 stars Peach Rocks!   June 3, 2007

I consider this game to be one of the best. It's really fun. It has all of the basic elements of Super Mario games - with a twist. I really like that Peach is the one saving the guys this time. Actually there is nothing I can honestly say I strongly dislike about the game. I think I will be enjoying this game for a long time. Here are some of the things I like the most:

-The "damsel" is actually saving the heroes this time
-The mood powers provide a great boost in times of need
-You can kill almost any monster by hitting it with the umbrella
-There are a lot of unlockable mini games and puzzles etc.
-The worlds are not to easy and not to hard to pass

There are a couple more things that I like but this is my top 5.
