Game Informer Rules!!! May 8, 2005 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the only magazine I get, and it fully fufills my needs as a true gamer. It has many great sections like: previews, reviews, cheats, tips, old game reviews, reader Q and A, and extras in annual issues like best game of the year, ect. There is much more than that in Game Informer, but those are my favorites. I usually read the magazine in 2 or 3 days once I get it, memorize every little tid bit of info, and anticipate for the next issue to come in the mail every day. If you don't have this magazine and you're a gamer of any sort, GET THIS MAG!!!!!
My favorite magazine! April 12, 2005 This is definitely my favorite magazine, as it has transformed me, in the space of a year and a half, from a casual gamer into a well-informed aficionado. I eagerly anticipate its arrival each month, re-read my extensive collection of back issues until I have the information memorized, and read the most exciting news and funniest reviews aloud to my friends, gamers or not. Why am I so obsessed? I'm glad you asked...
First, the magazine is very easy to navigate. Each month, content is ordered in the same way, so if you want to know about something, you can usually find it without looking at the table of contents. This sounds like small praise, but it's the only magazine I subscribe to that is so easy to find things in.
All the normal features you would expect from a respectable gaming magazine are here: The latest news on industry affairs, previews on upcoming games, a few large feature stories, strategies and codes, and, of course, reviews on just-released games. However, all this standard content is done better than in any other mag I've looked at. Reviews are not only informative, but they're often hilarious as well. Previews are extensive, and cover not only "big" games, but overlooked, underdog titles as well. Strategies and the like are written directly by the game's creators. Every section has more, and does it better, than anyone else. No doubt about it, GI always goes the extra mile in their quest to keep you informed.
In addition to the above features, there are also several things that you wouldn't expect to see. There's a section on the history of games, which often features retrospectives on favorite franchises or interviews with famous game developers of the past (like Howard Scott Warshaw and Don Daglow). A recent addition to the magazine is an "opinion" column, where game creators cut loose and reveal their candid thoughts on the industry. And each issue has an interview with a "celebrity"-type developer. Far from the safe, repetitive interviews with entertainers in other magazines, the developers are always very open and often reveal surprising thoughts. All of this is stuff you won't find anywhere else.
To end my rave review, I do have a few gripes relating to the magazine's humor. It's my opinion that the magazine has far too many references to pop culture, with frequent jokes about celebrities. Also, sometimes when I'm reading it, I feel like I'm being addressed as a 30-year-old man, which doesn't seem right, seeing as plenty of gamers are kids and teens, and many are female as well. Finally, sometimes the jokes are just too forced.
Even though I get annoyed when these problems pop up, I'm still very loyal to this mag. Thanks to GI, I'm always "in the know" about what's here now, what's up next, and even what already happened. If you're a casual gamer who wants to go deeper, or a die-hard who wants a perspective akin to their own, look no further than Game Informer.

Looking For An Awesome Gaming Magazine? Look No Further! March 29, 2005 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I remember the days when I used to pick up random gaming magazines that were OK at best, but would never fully cover all my gaming needs. I think that most video game consumers from all ages are looking for a video game magazine that will go into detail on:
a.) Game Description b.) Graphics c.) Sound d.) Playability e.) Replay Value f.) Score
A game's score, of course can be biased; but the Game Informer editors has always written intellectual reasons to why they feel that score was given.
In addition to Game Informer covering the aforementioned features, this multi-platform magazine also has a lot of other terrific extras. It features previews from upcoming games, classic games from the past (which usually contains a timeline), parodies on video games, Play to Perfection (walkthrough), artwork from readers, video game trivia, PC and handheld reviews and many, many more!
I have been subscribing to Game Informer since 1996 which was 5 years after the magazine went into circulation. As a subscriber for nearly nine years, Game Informer magazine seems to get better with age.
So if you are like me and want a magazine that will support all of your gaming needs, look no further and subscribe to Game Informer.
