Mario Luigi Toad Peach, OH MY! February 24, 2006 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! this game rocks! I never like jumping on enimies that much but picking them up is the best, and throwing them away like throwing away trash. The vegies are really funny, It made me laugh when I picked one up. And I could be as Toad he's my all time favorite thats how i found out mario by Toad! And no more goombas! I never liked those little brown guys, always in the way they are. And now more koopa troopas! NO more shells that will knock you out! Since this game was redone they also kept the old charm like Birdo. She has a womens voice and talks! So does Toad, Luigi, Mario, and Peach, they say so many different things like "thank-you" "peice of cake" and many others. This game i would put as the BEST SUPER MARIO BROS GAME EVER! Everythings great about this game you will love it the minute you flip the on switch.
:D Yahoo, Mama-mia, Piece of cake, thankyou, owowowowowo, :D
My personal favorite Mario game December 31, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
While I admit this isn't the best Mario game, it is my favorite. "Why?", you might ask. For one thing, it gives us a break from the traditional "jump-on-the-enemies'-heads-and-succeed" gameplay. While jumping on something is probably a better way to defeat things then having to have to look around for something to throw at them (and I'm not the type who likes the idea that you have to depend on some form of item), but Super Mario Advance (which is conviently 2 games in one pack) keeps the veggies abundant and provides other ways to defeat enemies. You can pick them up and hurtle them. I will first describe the new-and-improved Super Mario Bros. 2, then I will describe the second game (which has also ben modified) the Mario Bros. arcade game.
Super Mario Bros. 2 is the main part of the game. This is a noticeably better version of Super Mario Bros. 2, due to the giant vegetables and larger enemies (that supply hearts whenever you throw them or hit them with something). Though it is rare to find these giant creatures, I like them. The giant vegetables take out so many more enemies at a time, that I can't believe it.
The game is creative in it's design, as each world is very rich and cartoonish, though I imagine it could be more of a dream. And it turns out that the whole game is a dream that Mario is having. However, there are only 3 designs and 7 worlds. The designs are, grass lands (sort of), deserts, and a castle. The grass lands I prefer, but I have a few favorites in the deserts. All the worlds are very rich and very beautiful, especially the castle which is built on the clouds.
You'd also think that they're fairly peaceful, but the number of enemies and creatures running around is insanely high. luckily, you always have something to defeat them with, including their allies. Yes, you can pick enemies up and throw them. Sometimes you even have to ride on their heads to get over a platform covered with spikes. Yes, enemies don't get any better then this.
Graphics are marvelous as far as the characters' designs are and the platfomrs. The upsetting thing about the graphics is how tight the screen gets, especially when you're carrying a giant vegetable or a giant enemy. Also, the design of the castle is astonishingly beautiful. Too bad it belongs to such an evil toad.
Each character is different. Mario - 4/5 Speed, 4/5 Power, 4/5 Jump Luigi - 3/5 Speed, 3/5 Power, 5/5 Jump Peach - 2/5 Speed, 2/5 Power, 3/5 Jump Toad - 5/5 Speed, 5/5 Power, 2/5 Jump Now, don't freak out if you're a Peach fan. she's an excellent choice for almost any level because of her ability to float through the air for a short time. I used Peach more then any other character. Don't think that you're rare chance to play as Toad is spoiled either. While his jump is noticeably weaker, I wouldn't say that Toad's jump is really any different then Mario's. Luigi has an annoying flutter to his jump that makes him hard to time and somewhat loose in control. Luigi is still and excellent choice for most levels, as long as he isn't facing a Birdo.
Finally, I will discuss the enemies. Shy-Guy is a very typical enemy. Most of the time, giant enemies are giant Shy-Guys. Blue Shy-Guys are confined only to the platform that they are on. Red Shy-Guys can walk off the platform that they're on and roam around almost anywhere. Gray Snifits shoot bullets out of their mouths. The Blue and Red rule for the Shy-Guys applies for the Gray Snifits. Beezos are flying enemies with forks. Flurrys are ice-skaters. Pidgits are little birds on magic carpets. Sparks circle platforms and just fly and are so annoying. Phantos come to life whenever you pick up their key. They guard keys. Pansers spit fire balls out of their heads. Hoopsters climb on vines, ropes, ladders, and chains. Trouters are fish. Porcupos are sharp cookies. Albatosses carry Bob-ombs. Tweeters are great for defeating bosses, s use them. Cobrats are a type of snake. Pokeys are layered cactuses like from Super Mario World. Autobombs are cannons with wheels. Shy-Guys usually drive them. Ostros are also riden by Shy-Guys. Birdo is the most common boss. There are pink, red, and green Birdos. Fry Guy is a flying fireball. Mouser is a bomb-throwing mouse with sunglasses. Tryclyde is my favorite 3-headed snake. Clawgrip is a mutated crab with a passion for rock throwing. There's an unnamed creature in the game in the last level. It is a flying hawk head, like the ones that eat you when you complete a level. Wart is the main bad guy who hates vegetables. So why are they growing all ove Subcon if he's taken over?
That is my favorite Super Mario Bros. 2 version. Sure the NES version was good, but this is the best.
Mario Bros. was once an arcade game. Players would jump up and bump the enemies above them and thenkick them off the screen. That's great fun, but the main reason I think that Nintendo put this on was to give the game a multiplayer feature. I'm not too keen on it, but it is pretty neat.
Spineys are turtles with spikey shells. Fighter Flies are hopping flies. Crabs have to be bumped twice. Fireballs fly all over. There are red and green fireballs. Freezies freeze the platform.
Single Player mode is simple. You run along and bump enemies, then you kick 'em off them screen. Easy.
Multiplayer I'm not going to go into. My review is long enough now.
So, I know this is a hard to find game. But, if you want it, find it used. It probably won't come with an instruction booklet or a box. I just ordered a book from the Nintendo online store and I got the actual game on eBay. If you need a box, i'm sure you can find one on Nintendo's online store, but I just keep mine mostly in my Game Boy Advance, or my GBA kit. I recommend this game if you can ignore the few problems. Oh, and I forgot to mention the wacky camera. It's wacky, but workable.

Super Mario 2 is the Stupid Mario Game but it does bring back alot of memorys. It is neat that games that I grew up with are now coming out on the GBA.
A ruined classic but still a good game October 26, 2005 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
This super mario advance is an updated version of the NES classic Super mario bros. 2. While it is still a good game, this updated version is ruined in a couple of ways. 1, They made Mario and the other characters talk which is annoying. 2. there are vegetables that can be picked up to throw at your enemies. They made those veggies Gigantic. they take up too much of the screen. they made Super mario bros. 1 on GBA a "Classic NES series" which left the game unmodified and the same as it was on the NES system near 20 years ago. S.M.B. 2 AND S.M.B. 3 should have been unmodified and "Classic NES Series" as well
