3 out of 5 stars Interesting   November 2, 2008
This is more puzzle oriented than I thought. I guess I believed it was more along the lines of the game Hotel Dusk: more realistic puzzles in real circumstances that deal with the plot rather than random brain teasers. However, Curious Village picks your brain in good ways, keeps it healthy along with a good and intriguing story with charming characters. I would definitely say this: I'd rather play Curious Village and deal with the riddles that progress the plot, that in turn, develop the story and have it keep my interest than, say, play Brain Age, (or any game of the like) any day. :D

5 out of 5 stars An amazing game for ages 10-12   October 16, 2008

Professer Layton and the Curious Village was one of the best video games I have ever played. I am 11 and found the brainteasers interesting, entertaining, and sometimes challenging. Even when the game is done, it is still fun to go back and do the puzzles again and again. Even the plot was exciting and confusing, but came together at the end. The ending was awesome, and rounded out the game well. The little mini-accomplishments that opened up secrets were tough, but in a good way. I have friends that also love this game, and they are 11, too. The puzzles were made perfectly for kids my age, and probably kids a little older and a little younger than me, too. This is my favorite game ever, and I encourage anyone who likes to do puzzles to buy this game, and I assure you, you will love it.

5 out of 5 stars Fun and Stimulating--Loved it!   October 12, 2008
Not often do you get to have fun and do some light brain excercises at the same time. If you like puzzles, this game will not disappoint you and is appropriate for all ages. What's nice is that the game has a variety of puzzles, but is not repeitive even though they've worked in such a large volume of brain teasers and hidden them all over the city. I only hope and pray that they will make another!

4 out of 5 stars The music will stick in your head!   October 8, 2008
One of the best games I've played on the DS, though it does have one huge, glaring fault. In the end, it turns into a bit of a pixel-hunt.

Overall, the game play - which integrates brainteasers with an engaging plot - is superb. It's a slow-paced thinking game, great for those of is without the reflexes needed to play a lot of the arcade-style games out there. It's also more fun than a lot of the 'train your brain' games, while making you think just as much. I was very sorry to come to the end!

The downside, though, is a big, frustrating one. They've tried to solve the worst of it by giving you a hint coin and puzzle finding gizmo towards the end, but it's rather hit-and-miss. Just because it doesn't hit on a still-unfound puzzle in one scene doesn't mean it's not there - you might have to visit the scene half a dozen times or more before you get a hint! And, of course, it seems to have a preference to finding the hint coins over the puzzles. Still, I was able to preserve and find all but one of the puzzles. The last, I have to admit, I looked to a walkthrough to find. It would be wonderful if you could 'buy' a hint screen towards the end that at least showed you what scene you had hidden puzzles left in!

A lot of the puzzles are a bit repetitive (there are several 'pitcher' and 'chess' and 'sliding puzzle' ones) and some are a little tricky and a pit finicky, but with perseverance (and an occasional hint!) it's easy enough to work your way through the whole game.

I have to admit, if the plot were a book I might call it predictable, but as a backdrop to a game it was fun and worked well. And guessing the ending is just another part of the fun!

Evidently they're making a sequel, and I will be first in line to buy it. Highly recommended for all ages!

5 out of 5 stars Puzzlessssssssssss   October 6, 2008
I loved this game of puzzles. Solving all kinds of puzzles and trying to move from one place to another and trying to find clues and coins. It kept my interest till I had solved all the puzzle and also the FINAL puzzle to solve the mystery. I didn't go on line to download more puzzles, but that is an option.
