5 out of 5 stars Very Good Sequel to the Previous Games   March 20, 2008
Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 is a really great game. Many people think that it's not that great just because of the different interface. I strongly disagree. Before I bought this game, I read the reviews and thought twice about getting it. Countless reviews spoke of new features that just dragged the game down. But I am a fan of the RCT series, so I decided to take a chance and buy it. Luckily, I made the right choice.

It's true; the game is very different than the other RCT games, but that's not a bad thing. The new 3-D graphics let you fully experience your park. You can move the camera to unlimited angles and zoom in or out as close or far as you want. There are loads of new coaster types, rides, shops, and much more. You can customize your own buildings exactly as you please. Bring the park of your imagination to life.

Another plus is that you can ride the rides. One really good feature is this - have you ever played the previous RCT games and wished you could ride the roller coasters you built? Well, if you have any previous titles installed on you computer, the game simply transfers them to 3-D and you can place it in your RCT3 park.

The other features are great as well. You can play the career mode, in which you meet certain objectives in parks that are already started. Unlike the other RCT games, however, there are three levels of objectives - apprentice, entrepreneur, and tycoon - for each scenario. Each level consists of one or more objectives. You must complete apprentice to unlock entrepreneur, though, and so on and so forth. You must also complete these scenarios to unlock new scenarios.

Another mode is Sandbox Mode, in which you have a large piece of land and unlimited money to do whatever you want with. You can even design your own scenarios and objectives, or make your own customized guest, or "Peeps." You can add your own music from your computer to play during a ride.

Overall, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 is a really great game. Buy it, and you won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Very different from RC-2 but riding the rides is GREAT!   January 4, 2008
Yes, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 looks VERY different from the first and second versions of the game. Others have addressed some of these major differences and I echo these sentiments.

What I will add: If you are sensitive or suffer from motion sickness, be careful when "riding" a ride. I literally became quite ill with a migraine! I will say, however, my children LOVED this aspect of the game and can easily spend hours doing so.

The peeps can be a little disappointing. They wander around and get lost easily unless you have very SIMPLE paths. I also agree that sandbox is the way to go.

But this game is about building rides and the ability to do so in this is a fantastic feature. I think it is a little more challenging and not being able to make tunnels is a little disappointing but making some out of this world roller coasters will make it worth everything for some people.

I also have never had any problems running this on my system.

5 out of 5 stars It's AWESOME!!!   December 17, 2007
I don't get why all my friends are hating on Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. It's my favorite in the entire series of games!

The fact that you can design people to enter your park, design really awesome roller coasters that you can virtually ride, and the fact that there is a wider range of even more rides and coasters are all so incredible to make Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 my favorite in this entire selection of games!

I don't understand why everyone hates this one, because I don't understand where their hate is coming from, but I don't know. I guess it's just not for them. Anyway, this is a great game and a good addition to your video game/computer game collection.

4 out of 5 stars Fun game   September 26, 2007
I bought the game for my sister, she's 13 and she loves it. It gives goals to reach, that way the player learns how to manage their money.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Tycoon Franchise that was unfortunately left out for dead   August 1, 2007

Chris Sawyer created a great game: Rollercoaster Tycoon. While its graphics weren't all that hot, it certainly was enjoyable. Modeled after Theme Park, it had tremendous potential. RCT2 was RCT with more content. Then came RCT3 in which the graphics were overhauled and much more content was created.

I've owned this game since it was released and to me it's not as buggy as many people feel it is. I felt it was pretty stable compared to other games which were complete horror shows especially since this was as well as earlier the time period were many tycoon games were being released. The major bug I would have to say is the peep (in game people) path finding which hasn't been addressed since its 2 expansions and even in the earlier Rollercoaster Tycoon games. It gets really bad that the larger your park is you will find the peeps running around below your rollercoaster (where you would expect it to be off limits). You even catch quite a number of peeps if you click on them, they say the same out thing" It's late and I can't find the exit." I wish the ingame people called peeps weren't so cartoonish. Another bug is the fact that no matter how many mechanics you have employed, your rides always seem to break down and it seems like this number multiplies in a way to fast rate. Same thing with inspections, I hired many mechanics and quickly unchecked fix rides so the only thing that they had to do was to inspect rides. Many of the rides were way over there "expected" inspection timeframe. Some other tweaks as well as adding other realistic concepts can make this game perfect (see my reviews of the expansions). It would be nice to add billboards and the peeps actually notice it. It can help to beef up soveneir and food/drink sales or to help rides that aren't that popular. It can also advertise the rides that you have as well as helping peeps with pathfinding. Why not add a realtime clock because it looks weird when I'm building a park and it gets dark, then 10 minutes later it's sunny again. Of course time can be fast fowarded so you know sitting and waiting. The addition of business hours would be nice. It could be used to allow your employees to clean up your park, fix and inspect rides, and get everything ready for the next day. The patches didn't do much but the 2 expansions tried to fix some bugs but sadly there still present.

Again this game has so much potential and its a shame how Frontier/Atari and everyone associated with this game have abandoned it for Thrillville (see my review of Thrillville). I wish Chris Sawyer would return. It would be nice to see him, Sid Meier (Civilization Franchise creator), and Will Wright (creator of the Sims Franchise) join forces on this one. It would be unprecedented and immaculate. No joke but I still play this game (with the expansions) and never deleted it at all from my hard drive. When I built my own computer, this was the first game I reinstalled. My favorite games are buisness sims and strategies with close to realism as possible.

If you like business (tycoon) sims, had Theme Park, or played Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 and 2, then you will love this one along with its 2 expansions. You get a good deal since they are in the bargain bins now. Now they just sell the deluxe version in which you get Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and its 2 expansions. No turn button to push! Enjoy!
