1 out of 5 stars No Fun at All!   November 5, 2006

This game was a waste of money for me because I couldn't find anything that explained how to play it. Maybe it's me--I'm an adult who likes to play computer games; so, perhaps it's an age thing. I also bought a casino game and the instructions left out one important bit of information--I finally figured it out; but this one has me baffled. I think it's another one of those situations where the games are made in a foreign country and when the instructions are translated to English, most often, important factors are lost in the translation (like the instructions for my Zenith LCD television!).

This game is frustrating based on the lack of "Frills" it offers in this day and age. It has about as much play modes as a super nintendo golf game or something. BUT, for some reason I always want to play it. The basic play mechanics are just that fun. When you are in the zone it seems like the easist game in the world, 10 minutes later you might want to throw your DS at a wall in anger. Just like real golf. It just sort of feels like real golf a lot of the time which is probably the best thing that can be said for a video game simulation. If they make a sequel and they beef up the rest of the game, we could be looking at a real classic.

At a glance, True Swing Golf appears to offer an average gaming experience. With graphics that you would expect from a mobile phone game rather than a DS game, a general lack of charm in the presentation, and an extremely limited set of game options and modes, the player's initial impression may be one of disappointment.

You can't do much to customize your golfer, the equipment system is best summed up as "buy the most expensive gear you can", there are no licensed courses, four basic game modes (stroke, match, practice, championship), and you can't even save videos of your best holes.

Despite all of these shortcomings, the game is insanely fun. Mostly, it comes down to the controls, the courses, and the physics. The basic mechanics of making a shot are incredible. Line up your shot, get ready to swing, set your spin, decide whether you want to click L for a powered up shot, then guide the club head back and quickly up through the ball. Incredible, intuitive, and when you crush it just right, amazingly satisfying.

In spite of some very devious greens, the courses are wonderful. Unlike many golf video games, you really do need to think through your strategy, aiming for just the right spot and roll on the fairway to push the ball that extra 20 yards. And attempting mastery of some of the tougher holes gives this game a huge amount of replay value.

If this game had any kind of license attached to it, it'd be perfect. If you married the swing system and the other basics of this game to the Mario Golf franchise, it would likely be not just the best handheld golf game but the best golf video game ever made. Since Nintendo is the publisher of this game, it's a mystery they didn't wait and do just that.

So if spartan presentation with excellent mechanics is good enough for you, get this game without hesitation. Otherwise, wait and see if Mario Golf DS ever appears.

I definitely love some of the greatest challenges in sports video games. Well it might be all worth its money, there are times to where the game isn't worth the dollars it has been made out to be. FOr golf games, they've been mostly no acception. Although there have been highly successful editions like Mario Golf for the Nintendo Gamecube, that hasn't been chipped in with other games like Tiger Woods PGA Tour. That could possible be said with what needs to be percise for the Nintendo DS too. Although there has been many noticibles, could Nintnedo DS have a decent golf game of their own?

True Golf Swing for the Nintendo DS is a interesting kind of gold game, but it definitely doesn't have all the makings of a hole in one. The object of the game is very simple, you have to try to score big in your games and holes, inorder to unlock much more advanced levels and trickier courses. The control here in the game of course is completely conjured with the stylus. Here you need to use your stylus percisely, to make a great swing shot across the fairway. Although that might seem easy, it absolutely isn't. One wrong miss, and you'll be penalized with an extra stroke. The graphics does fair very well and the sound is definitely masterful toward each one of the courses in detail and design, but it isn't really enough to make it a must buy.

All in all, True Swing Golf isn't one of the best games out there for the Nintendo DS, but it is good for die hard golf fans. For others who have a realistic desire to make a hole in one, I absolutely suggest that Nintendo DS owners wait for a better golf game to eagle with.

Graphics: B 1/2+

Control: C 1/2-

Fun & Enjoyment: C 1/2+

Overall: C

4 out of 5 stars The only drawback is the missing PGA   January 25, 2006

Wow. What a great game on the DS. This is not the prettiest game, or the most notable. But it is FUN FUN FUN! Using the stylus to control the swing works great. Nintendo continues to innovate and change the way we play games. There are at least 15 courses. This is enough to keep anyone entertained for a long long time. There are no PGA anything in this game. But for what it lacks in realism it makes up for in fun. Get this game if you have even a moderate affinity for golf.
