SO I FINALLY WAIT TO GET A PS3 (A YEAR LATER)...AND CAN'T SEEM TO CONTAIN MYSELF WITH GETTING MADDEN 08 FOR THE PS3..A FRIEND COMES OVER AND LENDS ME THE GAME (PLANNING TO BUY WITHIN 2 DAYS). CONCLUSION: I HAVE TO SAY IT IS THE WORSE MADDEN GAME EVER!WHAT SEEMED TO BE MY FAVORITE GAME TO PLAY HAS BECOME MY WORST NIGHTMARE. ALL I CAN IS THAT EA SPORTS NEEDS A LOT OF WORK NEXT YEAR. THEY ARE LOSING THEIR TOUCH.. IF ANY OF YOU READS THIS AND WORKS FOR EA SPORTS..PLEASE SAVE MADDEN! GOOD THING THAT I DID NOT BUY IT..I WOULD HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR A REFUND AND AN APOLOGY.
Pure Frustration! December 30, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not going to take too long on this review, just trust me...STAY CLEAR OF MADDEN '08 for PS3!
>This game has an extreme case of the fumbles. (15 times for both teams combined in one 5-minute quarter game? This is while utilizing it's so called "protect the ball" feature.) >Filled with useless features. For example, a combination of buttons allows you to illuminate the part of the field you are looking at as QB, as if he was wearing a headband lamp. Is he a QB or a miner? Does nothing but cost you precious time. They should focus more on features such as altering an individual receiver's play pattern and maybe allowing the "highlight stick" to be an all around control stick instead of just a juke. For example, rotating it causes your player to spin while running instead of dedicating a button to it. Use the button for something more useful. >If you like magic, this came IS for you. Plenty of disappearing players, balls going through chests, players running through walls and goal posts, etc. >Filled with bugs!
Horrible effort by EA Sports. Another game in a string full of disappointing efforts. I will never invest in an EA Sports game again until I rent to try it first.
In game advertising sucks December 29, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Every time you get into the red zone, some annoying underArmour pop up ad appears. Having a UA billboard wouldn't have been that big of a deal, but having it pop-up and impede game play is unacceptable.
Boycott this game, unless you want this trend to continue.
Awsome graphics, gameplay needs work December 28, 2007 Although Madden has had the exclusive rights for the NFL for some time now, EA Sports has not slacked in any way despite the fact that it doesn't have any direct competition. The game is not perfect by any means but it does take advantage of next generation graphics and it's rich tradition to make a very enjoyable experience.
The things that make Madden great are still there: Franchise Mode, which I feel does not have the depth of previous editions, still allows you to control your favorite NFL Franchise. Create - a - Player, NFL Superstar and some new additions give the NFL fan a lot of replay value. However I wonder how much the casual gamer will take out of these features.
The game, to put it simply is beautiful. To play in HD in a good flat screen is one of those things that have to be seen to believe. There are some minor things, like the running animations of the players which in my opinion look awkward. Also, the recievers sometimes catch the ball in a way that is physically imposible but the game lets it happen because it's a "spectacular catch" and they look cool doing it.
I feel the gameplay needs a little work compared to previous editions. The opposing defenders now have the ability to make a runner fumble waay too often. You have to protect the ball by pressing L2. I'm finding myself struggling with this new control, as you can't predict whether the hole the running back goes into is crowded enough to merit using the button. If you use it and its not crowded enough, it just slows you down significantly. This creates an unrealistic amount of fumbles per game. The fumbles shoudld happen according to the player's propensity to fumble in real life like in the past and you should be able to improve that stat by playing mini games in the off-season(like in Madden 06) or with the new feature in 08 that allows you to do the same by playing the mini - games before an actual game.
Overall, the gameplay lacks fluidity. The action looks a little choppy but I'm comparing it based on Madden 06 & 07 which were made at the pinnacle of graphic development of the PS2. Later incarnations of the game should improve as EA Sports figures out the PS3.
Of course, in reviews like these you focus on the flaws but believe me, they are minor details once you are immersed in the game. Madden 08 is an excellent introduction to Next Gen, HD gaming for the franchise.
One of the best of the bunch December 26, 2007 Short and sweet ... I love the game EA did an amazing job!!! Why only 4 stars, with the power of the system what would posess EA to not include formation shifts, formation audibles, and slide protection? Especially when they are features on the 2 (I picked up a copy for the 2/3 on realease day). But over all I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
