4 out of 5 stars The best skate game ever!!!   October 22, 2007
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This is the best skate game I ever played, much better than any Tony Hawk's games.
The controls are very similar to real sakting, and the graphics... NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT!!
Buy it today and you'll not regret!

Sorry about the english, I'm from Brazil!

5 out of 5 stars Good Game   October 20, 2007

This game is very nicely done. The independent board and body controls make this a much more realistic game than previous skating games. Overall, a very enjoyable product.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing skating game. One of the best if not the best.   October 17, 2007

As the title says, this game is amazing. I have played this game for countless hours, and I still have a great time playing it. There are a couple of annoying things in the game, but every game is going to have some parts like that. It would be nice if you could walk sometimes instead of skating everywhere. Overall I would recommend this game to anybody regardless if you like skateboarding or not.

4 out of 5 stars A review from decade old veteran   October 14, 2007
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I started skateboarding when I was 11 years old (1995); I skated for over 10 years until several subsequent injuries forced me to abandon the sport altogether. I've played most of the Tony Hawk franchise games and, while they are fun, they get pretty repetitive and boring after a while, not to mention extremely unrealistic. I was glad to hear that a new breed of skateboarding game was being developed, one that was more realistic and much more rewarding to play. I wanted something that could give me a reminder of what it was like to ride a board. And let me tell you, Skate delivers. It is a fantastic game and truly raises the bar for more skateboarding games to come (here's looking at you THPS). This game really touched me since I can't skate anymore (I am not disabled just so you know, my muscles and joints just can't take the abuse); while playing the game, the scenery, sound effects, and general feel left me yearning the memories of riding around in the sunny salad days of my youth.

Pros:
- realistic tricks, scenery, sounds, etc.
- "Flickit" control system challenges the gamer and (hopefully) sheds a little light on how difficult skateboarding is in real life
- online additions add a lot of value
- ability to replay your best tricks

Cons:
- the rag doll effects of when skaters fall are fairly unrealistic, this sort of jerks you out of the experience
- soundtrack: although there is some good music, the majority of it is pretty lousy
- the colorful comments of your "tutor" are fun, but after a while the guy becomes quite annoying, especially with the shout outs to other skaters in the game (this seems more like inside jokes between skaters and is quite isolating).
- product placement: it is nice that skateboard companies are represented in the game, but it gets a little out of hand. Skateboarding has become too much about fashion as well as being overtly commercial; it irks me that this image is being perpetuated, especially to non-skaters. And the reference to T-Mobile is a little unnecessary.

I would give this game 5 out of 5 if it weren't for those little quirks, so 4 out of 5 will do. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic game and well worth the money if you are interested. Give it a try.

5 out of 5 stars So realistic, it hurts   September 24, 2007

Without a doubt this is the most realistic bad-a$$ skating game out there. I could go on and on about how realistic this is in style, sound and intuition, but you'll just have to see it for yourselves. I am 31, and this had me so pumped up I actually busted out my old skateboard I hadn't been on in 4 years and hit the local skatepark, it's that good. If you were like me and were restricted to curb grinding and sluggish rail slides on wooden park benches, but always wanted to do the big boy stuff... buy this game. It will bring back great memories. Absolutely outstanding!
