3 out of 5 stars Fun, for a while   April 3, 2007

When I saw this game I was overwhelmed with excitement. I'm a huge SSX fan and thought that Tricky and 3 were 2 of the best games I had on the Gamecube. So, although I was hesitant, I got the game the day it came out.

The learning curve is intense. After about 10 minutes the basics of the game will get you grooving like a fool as you carve through the mountain to the smooth beats and the new cartoony graphics. The Ubertricks, which were the highlight of the last few games are extremely frustrating at first, but after you get the hang of a few of them, the rest should come easily.

I beat the game in about a week and that's when I noticed there is almost no re-play value. I unlocked the 12 ubertricks, and could only pull off about 8 of them. I unlocked the 3 outfits for my characters and the uninspired boards and skis.

I miss the ability to customize your characters look. I miss the Zany tracks that sent you down city streets and through collapsing caves (none of the tracks are new, just remixed). And after you hear the same 6 tracks over and over again, (not to say they're bad, they're fun to listen to; but i liked the licensed tracks from previous titles) the game can get boring. I re-played with a second character and frankly didn't want to finish because the game experience seems to pull off all of it's tricks once, then fall over on the floor and choke to death.

The game turns out to be just a lazy Re-mix of the old game. It's a fun experiment that's worth a rent, but I actually plan on selling mine as soon as my brother finishes the game. It has potential for the next one, and you know there will be a next one. I just hope that the controls are fixed, The ubertricks are easier, the tracks are new (because it's boring and too easy playing levels from a game you've already beaten), and there is more customization in character and your music choice. It's just under-whelming.

4 out of 5 stars A different way to play SSX   March 24, 2007

If you like the SSX series, as I do, you are going to like this game. it is a totally new way to play SSX. A lot of fun, and definitely a lot of replay value.

5 out of 5 stars Challenging, but in a good way.   March 20, 2007

This game is hard. I will not beat around the bush. The first 20 minutes were painful, and I was frustrated. But you keep playing. Soon, carving is easier. You get to know your spins and flips, and in no time you can predict accurately how to rotate and land without bailing. Grabs are confusing at first, but with a little bit of effort you can pull them off.
Personally, I love this game. I have felt that many games have been dumbing-down thier controls. This game is a welcome fresh breath of air and really showcases why the Wii controls are revolutionary.

In closing- Don't listen to people who tell you the controls suck. They are excellent, but as they say, garbage in, garbage out. You get what you put into the game. It takes some time and some serious practice, but aren't you tired of beating a game in 4 hours (cough, cough, WarioWare)? Try it, you'll be pleasantly suprised.

2 out of 5 stars Multiplayer is unacceptable   March 19, 2007

If you enjoy the multiplayer aspect of SSX games of the past (before SSX "On Tour") you will be disappointed to know that SSX Blur has the same fatal design flaw that plagued SSX On Tour. When racing against a friend, if you get more than 300 feet ahead of your competition, the game automatically pulls your competitor forward to your position. This nullifies any value in having a multiplayer aspect to this game.
If you are strictly interested in the single-player aspect of this game, you may enjoy what this game has to offer. However, if you enjoy multiplayer, the limitations of this game are frustrating and annoying. Buy SSX 3 instead.

5 out of 5 stars Fun and Challenging game.   March 16, 2007

A lot of games are easier to play on the Wii, but not this one. The motion sensitive controllers adds a whole new level of immersion to the SSX series, but it wil take you about 2 hours of practice to start getting use to it. Once you get the hang of it, carving and pulling off uber moves has never felt more rewarding. If you expect this to be like a Wii Sports: Ski Boarding, think again because the first few hours will be frustriating as hell. So let Grandma sit this one out...Hardcore players only.
