4 out of 5 stars An oversighted expedition   May 12, 2007

SSX Blur is the same SSX you've come to know, Wii-style. If you have played other SSX titles, then you will recognize some of the courses here. That's because this is, at its core, a medley of the best of SSX games. There are no new courses, but each course feels new, thanks to the Wii style of play.

In words, the control style is simple. To turn, simply tilt the Nunchuk to its side; to jump, jerk the Nunchuk up; to turn or flip, flick the Remote to the side or upward. Ubertricks are performed by drawing a simple shape in the air. However, the whole thing takes a while to learn. It took me an hour or two to get the basic controls down, and a few more to start doing Ubertricks. The learning curve is a little sharp, but once you get it down, it feels so right to glide down the mountain using motion instead of buttons.

One complaint I have is not about the controls, but the sound. Gone are the licensed soundtracks of earlier games, as well as the character's taunts. In its place, original music that picks up steam depending on your Groove Meter. The music is nice, but not very exciting, and the game just seems too quiet.

SSX Blur is a good game, to be sure, but it doesn't have quite a good foundation. Prehaps if the developers let it cook a little longer, we would have a gourmet game. It may not be a souflé, but it is more then enough to make a meal.

3 out of 5 stars Fun game   May 9, 2007

The game has a small learning curve and is very fun to play. It is just like the other games of this brand and is a good game to own. Overall, not very challenging. I won 1st place in several events my first attempt playing the game. It has good graphs and good music. Controlling the uber tricks can sometimes be tricky.

5 out of 5 stars Same as SSX On tour for PS2   April 14, 2007
I was really disappointed to find out this new release was only availible for the WII. My little nephew and I are huge fans of SSX3 and SSX On Tour for PS2. I was surprised to find out that BLUR its practically the same game as SSX ON TOUR for PS2.

They didnt do anything new and Sony still hasent given hardcore gamers any reason to buy a wii and this game is no exception. All they did was port over a two year old game from the playstation2, how lame.

Here is my advice, if you have a choice between the two, buy SSX on tour for the PS2 used from gamestop its the same game. You'll save alot of money and the graphics and game play are pretty much the same.

I dont recommend buying AMPED 3 for the XBOX360 (I love xbox360) as an alternative because.....it sucks.

I give the game a 5 because its very fun no matter which version you buy or console you play it on. I give Sony a 1 for not comming original.

1 out of 5 stars "SSX Blur".....Probaly the Wii's Best Game Out There Right Now   April 7, 2007

First off, I know that some people are saying "SSX Blur is just a piece of recycled trash", but as far as I care, if it is trash, its probaly the best piece of trash I have ever seen. SSX Blur is a fun game, yet it is sort of difficult to pick up and play. The Tutorials were extremely hard when I first tried out the game, and the whole time I was thinking,"How am I ever going to beat this game". But as soon as I started Career mode, I realized,"This is the best game ever!!!!!!". And another great thing about this game, is its length. It's going to take quite a while to beat this game. I'v had the game about 3 weeks already, and I still havn't beat the game yet. That is, I havn't beat the game yet with the person I chose to do career with. To unlock everything in the game, you have to beat career with all the characters. I can't remember how many characters there are, but there are at least 8. Lastly, the games graphics are STUPENDOUS!!!! And the tracks and race types are SUPERB!! So to wrap up my review, here are the Pros and Cons of the game-

Pros:
-Wonderful Controls
-Good Game Length
-Super Graphics
-Good Track Design
-Fun Race Types

Cons:
-Hmmmmm....can't really think of any!!!

3 out of 5 stars SSX Blur - kid friendly graphics with core gamer difficulty   April 5, 2007
4 out of 4 found this review helpful

SSX Blur for the Nintendo Wii is a fictional "over-the-top" snowboarding game, which lets players perform unrealistic stunts and maneuvers. The overall presentation is cartoon like and will appeal to kids ages 7+. The player must successfully compete in Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Slalom, BigAir and Boarder Cross events to unlock additional runs, multiplayer-games, characters and accessories. The Motion-Sensing Wii controls are intuitive and easy to learn, but end up disappointing by being not responsive or accurate enough to master the game. In addition, the level difficulty ten-folds to a point of sheer frustration, (even for adults) after a short period of time. Don't be fooled by the cartoonish look - SSX is geared towards the hardcore and experienced gamer. Fans of the series will be disappointed to know that SSX Blur features several "recycled" runs from previous versions of the game (SSX On Tour). KidConfidence says: Rent this game before buying.
