1 out of 5 stars Worst instruction manual ever. Too many issues on XBOX live.   November 7, 2007
4 out of 8 found this review helpful

I've been hooked on the NBA 2K series since it began, however I regret buying NBA 2k8 after about 3 hours of playing.

The instruction manual is useless. There are numerous left and right analog-button combinations for all the various types of dribbles, passes, shots, post-up moves, etc. you can perform. The instruction manual will not tell you how to do any of them.

2K8's biggest flaw is that the off-the-ball controls (Left Bumper) don't work when playing on XBOX Live. It's a great feature when playing offline, as you can quickly tell your non-dribbling teammate to set a screen, post-up, etc. But once you get used to running plays with it against the computer, you'll find running your offense on Live to be unbearable.

UPDATE: An even bigger flaw on XBOX Live is the double-team glitch where the opposing team can double your ball handler and steal the ball immediately. You will encounter this numerous times online, rendering the game unrealistic and virtually unplayable.

5 out of 5 stars NBA 2K8: The Live Killer   November 1, 2007
0 out of 1 found this review helpful

For over 10yrs i have been an consist player of NBA Live, I bought the game every year and I love the NBA Live Experience. But the last 2 years on the XB360 Platform NBA Live simply was a disappointed and the game totally sucked. This year LIVE showed some improvements and are better than the previous years. My little brothers urge me to download the demo version of NBA 2K8, so I did and love it. After playing only a few minutes the game was much more fluid than Live 08. Players movements were natural looking and realistic gameplay. It pains me to say this, but Live finally has met it match. Although, 2k8 is rated higher then Live, the game has it flaws. The player faces are not as good as Live - Online play options are better. If you are looking for a great basketball game to spend 60 bucks on NBA 2K8, it is worth every penny. NBA Live 08 is a good game but I feel that NBA 2K8 is slightly better.

After playing a liitle more my drawbacks: Not a real big fan of players going on fast beaks and shooting three pointers, and making them like freethrows. The pause menu during xbox live totally sucks a$$. When the game is pause back the other user, the other player can not go in and make changes of your own. In addition, when another player is making change to his line or selcting plays an ignoring hand shows on the screen and you can hear the other player selecting item in the menu. Instruction books does not proved in information.

Positives - the various dunks, layups, fadeaways, cutting to the basket. The difficulty of the freethrows is a plus not gimme points

Total Scores:
NBA 2K8: 97
NBA Live 08: 95.5

4 out of 5 stars 2K sports has another hit   October 30, 2007

With improved graphics, gameplay and features NBA 2K8 is a solid game for NBA enthusiasts. The greatest flaw in the game is the broadcast audio which fails to meet the standard that the graphics have set. It is often choppy and monotone. It sounds it was recorded at different times and spliced together. But overall this game is fun and worth taking a look at.

5 out of 5 stars Can't intentionally foul a player ..........   October 15, 2007

Now 2K8 by far is a great game not a question, once you have figured out the new post moves button you are on your way. The problem I have is that when you hit the select button to intentionally foul a player they will grab you and no foul is called. So that is not good especially if you are winning if the team is tryin to foul you to put you on the line. Go head try it I did it like 15 times in a row just to see, its a turnover if you don't get the ball. If there is some way to fix this problem please comment and let me know, that kills a game in the closing seconds if its close. Im really upset about that.
