Good fun and challenging July 28, 2008 The 7 Wonders of the Ancient World is not only fun and challenging but I also enjoy reading the history of each Wonder as you complete each level and move on to the next. The only exasperating thing about the game is that when you lose your lives, you have to start completely over.
Very Addictive!! July 21, 2008 This game was a lot of fun. Be sure you don't have any other projects going once you turn this game on because nothing else will get done!!
best option for those want bejeweled for ds July 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've changed my mind; this is 5 stars; but I can't figure out to change this....
I've been looking for a Bejeweled-like game for DS, so I've been trying those recommended to others who've asked this same question.
7 Wonders is the closest by far (Jewel Quest and Puzzle League are not).
Succeeding screens are not square, so you have to think more to remove jewels (called "runes in this game) around the cut-out areas. Music is ok. Hints are given (little sparkles where a play is possible, but these are quite small on the ds).
There are "fireballs" and such, and they shoot out a horizontal row; another one takes out the vertical and horizontal row. There are "capstones" and "cornerstones" that appear, and you have to remove the runes below them so they fall out the bottom of the screen. These appear at random; it's not as though you have them to start out with and can plan strategy from the beginning of play. You get another life when you complete building what is at the level.
I haven't figured out why I get "hurry up" on the timing since I'm working quickly and very seldom have to spend time relying on a hint.
I haven't figured out whether there's an un-timed option. Does anyone know?
On my first cruise with it, I got up to the middle of the 3rd level. By that time, my eyes were bleary because of the size of the runes.
There's a little side story about guys building whatever it is and carrying picket signs when you don't get matches made quickly enough. There's a "conveyer belt" on the R side of the screen. As far as I can figure out, these are just for jollies.
Pros: (1) This has far fewer "auto-removes" and is more like Bejewled in this regard. (As opposed to Jewel Quest.) (2) Please "clicking" sound as runes drop. (3) It's a stylus game. (4) Music is not horrible.
Cons: (1) It's timed. There may be a way to turn off the timed feature, but I don't know. Hope there is. I'd rather until I get bored, rather than "die" and "get lives." (2) The jewels ("runes" in this game) are microscopic on the ds. I'm talking 2 mm. Quite a surprise if you've played the "real sized" one on your PC. (3) Also, it's difficult to tell pink and orange apart. (4) You can't save at the point where you failed. You have to go back to the beginning. (At this rate, I'll never even SEE what the art on the last level looks like!) Work-around: hit "start" and close unit. Keep it on the charger.
For those who've not played this game at all, you might want to try it out for free at iwin.com.
I bought my copy used at a local store ($18). The guy there said it had been discontinued but didn't know if that was because they were bringing out 2.0 or not. (I don't know whether he knew was he was talking about or not.)
Update (11-08): I'm glad I got 7 Wonders and and reach for it most often (even before Touchmaster and Clubhouse Games!). mb
Great game for all ages July 12, 2008 If you like Bejeweled you will love this game! Gets progressively harder as the levels advance. Promotes strategic thinking and hand eye coordination. Fun for all ages
Good July 8, 2008 This game is fun and addicting. If you like tetris you will like this game.
