4 out of 5 stars Only real choice   November 18, 2008
Since the PS3 doesn't have an IR port, a Bluetooth remote is the only option. Now I think that using Bluetooth for a remote is a great idea, but that means I can't use my great universal remote until Logitech develops a remote with Bluetooth. The remote itself works great and has all the functions you would need. It's true there is no one button for power off, so that is kind of a pain. However any button you press will turn your PS3 on. This can be annoying sometimes since it's Bluetooth and so doesn't need to be pointed at the PS3 or even have line-of-sight. It can be under a cushion when you sit down and all of a sudden you PS3 is whirring up. I guess in this sense it's good there is no one touch power off. Turning the PS3 off is a 3 button affair. Press and hold the PS button for about two seconds. Now press the OK button twice about a second apart from each other. You will see the hard drive light start to blink for a few seconds and your PS3 will turn off.

As it stands this is your only real choice for full functionality and thankfully it is not a bad one. It feels sturdy and does what needs to be done. If like me, you use your PS3 primarily for watching Blu-Ray movies then this is a must have.

5 out of 5 stars Great   November 16, 2008
Comes in handy when needed, doesn't waste controls battery life when watching movies or just browsing the menus or the playstation store. The remote is very light and user friendly with a nice battery life.

1 out of 5 stars Over-priced Under-featured Badly Designed Rip-off   November 15, 2008

Sony hs been making remotes for some time, so you think they'd come up with something servicable. But this is just a bad joke:

1 - the STOP BUTTON is between the PLAY and PAUSE buttons, and all three are the same shape and texture -- meaning you often hit it by mistake. Normaly no problem since most DVD Players have a resume function default. Not the PS3 -- it STOPS. It bails out of DVD mode and drops you into the system menu. Then you have to start up the DVD again, click through the start-up commecials on the Blu-Ray, and then find where you were when you first tried to pause it.

2 - No OFF button, so you have to go through the PS3 shut-down process.

3 - No backlight -- for the price they're asking, this device should have a back light, because...

4 - Text is too small, and buttons are often unclear.

It looks and feels like a remote made by gamers, not by people who actually want to watch a movie. Too bad, because the game controller that comes with the PS3 is a more funtional remote than this -- and far more robust. This feels like cheap plastic -- if Sony made their game controller this way, we'd all have XBoxes by now.

I can only infer that Sony had their trainee designers throw this dog together. And a bunch of sycophantic executives as product testers. It should never have been released.

Considering the price tag -- and the price tag of the PS3 you're buying it for -- this is just another of the many examples of Sony gouging the consumer.

Stick with your game-controller and save youself some money.

4 out of 5 stars Does the job   November 11, 2008
I'm not sure why this review form is referring to this as a "game" and asking me how much fun it is, but the remote does what it's supposed to do. It's easier than using the onscreen controls with the regular PlayStation controller, but I wouldn't recommend gaming with it (if it's possible).

4 out of 5 stars Great Remote, but Pause button in Wrong Place!   November 10, 2008
This makes the PS3 feel like a high end Blue-Ray player. It is nice that you do not have to aim the remote at the PS3, like for infrared controllers. One thing that dries me crazy is that the Pause and Stop buttons should be swapped. You know how frustrating it is to accidentally hit stop, which boots you completely out of the disk where you need to wade through all the startup stuff again before you can continue watching the movie? ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!
