4 out of 5 stars Near perfect recreation of the SNES pad.   May 26, 2008
I do not _OWN_ a Wii yet, but I have spent plenty of hours at my cousin's house playing on his, using this controller. I am holding out on Wii until they add Seiken Denestsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2) to the Virtual Console, I won't hold my breath. Anyway my experience with this pad playing the older games is pretty positive, the d-pad is very precise, alowing perfect maneuverability in most shooters like Gradius 3, and Zelda: Link to the Past. The sticks also have octagonal ridges which may seem irritating at first, but serve the purpose of keeping the directions seperate and keeping you from slipping into diagonal when you want to go straight. The Y X B A buttons are raised and have more feeling when you push them, unlike the original SNES buttons which felt thin. Start and Select are rather small, but aren't really that hard to hit and they are a fair distance from the stick so you aren't hitting your thumbs on the analogues trying to hit start (common problem with the PS1/2 pads). The analogue's don't have "click in" sticks like the Playstation gamepads, but I guess that isn't a needed function. The one thing that irks me about the Classic Pad is that the cord comes out of the bottom instead of the top, it feels very awkward.

If it were possible to make a Wii to USB adapter to use the Classic Pad as an input for PC games (and most importantly, emulators) like SuperJoy did for the PS2 pads, that would be really really awesome... Playing older games with the Classic pad feels soooo good, but the Virtual Console lacks many of the games I love, and they will probably never get them due to liscencing issues and cost of translating the text.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT PRODUCT   May 17, 2008
I love this new wii controller! very easy to handle and easy to navigate around the menu using the buttons. I use it all the time for the classic games that i download. The only downfall that I see is that the cord on the bottom sometimes gets in the way; should have made it on the top or should have made it wireless, none the less, this is an awesome product

4 out of 5 stars Wii Class Controller works fine   May 14, 2008

We've not had the best luck with finding the right controller for our Wii. Specifically, the old Gamecube controllers which work with some of the classic Nintendo games. The little toggle switch seems to sieze up and stop working. Luckily, the classic Wii controller doesn't do that, and it can be used with the Nintendo classic games very well. Though I can't say it is 100% perfect, it's certainly the best choice out there.

2 out of 5 stars One benefit but big downside   May 12, 2008

Why do I have this controller that will not work on Nintendo Gamecube games that I want to play on my Wii? The only benefit this offers is that it plugs into your Wii-mote and then becomes semi-wireless (still killing your batteries). Do yourself a favor and spend the same $20 on a wireless Gamecube controller. You can still play the virtual console games, plus the Gamecube discs, and not have a remote connected 3 feet away.

1 out of 5 stars Is this for human hands?   May 11, 2008

I specifically purchased two of these to play Smash Bros. I was informed that the normal Wii controllers were not very good to use and that I should use either the Game Cube controller or the Wii Classic. I made the wrong choice.

The biggest gripe is how uncomfortable this thing is to hold in your hands. It almost feels alien. Is it that we have had some sort of ergonomic sensibility in controllers going back to the Sega Genesis or am I just a wimp? Playing the game with this controller felt utterly and totally unnatural. Also, I am not fond of the wire coming out towards me...another thing that seemed out of place. To play with this controller, using the two thumb sticks is not natural.

Go with the Game Cube controller. I have never been displeased with any of my Wii stuff but there is a first for everything.
