 MP3 is the best in the series. June 10, 2008
I finally bought this game a couple weeks ago when I got my Wii. This game is so much fun. There's a better story line, perfect controls, great sound, and some pretty nice graphics too. Once and for all we get to kill Dark Samus and stop the Corruption for good!
I'll start off by saying the new weapons and gadgets are pretty cool. Some are sort of useless after one use, such as the ship missiles, but are still required to reach 100% pickups. I have no idea why there are so many ship missile expansions in the game because they are absolutely useless unless you want to get the special ending. Oh well; that takes no value away from the game whatsoever. Every new beam you get is backwards compatible with your previous beam, which is frickin awesome. No more D-pad using to switch between beams.
The only quirk I really have about the weapons is that missiles are rarely used and not even necessary to kill the bosses in this game. Most of the time you'll be using the hyperbeam to kill tough enemies and bosses. And you get that almost in the beginning of the game!!!
The sound in MP3 is very good. I don't think it's as good as MP1 was but the soundtrack is not bad at all. Bryo is probably my favorite piece. MP1 had almost identical music to Super Metroid in non midi form and that's what made it so great. Magmoor Caverns took the music from Super Metroid's Norfair area and that is by far my favorite level music from Metroid. The voice acting is also actually pretty good for what little there is.
I give sound a 4.5 out of 5.
The graphics in MP3 are some of the best on the Wii to this day (although it doesn't have much competition). There is definitely a difference between the standard composite cables and the component with 480p. The game looks sharper and less blurry. Although there are more jagged edges while playing in 480p, the overall clearness and color of the game look great. The game runs at 60 FPS even on the planet Elysia (which reminds me of Cloud City from Star Wars :D). Retro did a great job on creature and boss animations as they are amazingly detailed for the Wii.
I give graphics a 4.5 out of 5.
The controls in MP3 are the best I have ever seen in a first person shooter game and I wouldn't change a dang think about the controls. Nintendo has done a revolutionary thing with the Wii remote and the controls are so precise you'd think it wasn't wireless. It's almost like using a keyboard and mouse.
The nunchuk joystick (resembles w,s,a,d on a keyboard) moves your character up and down, and strafes left and right while the Wii remote (resembles a pc mouse) looks up, down, left and right. The controls may take you a little while to get used to after playing on a standard controller but once you get used to them, you won't want to go back. I wish all FPS games had this control setup now.
I give controls a 5 out of 5.
The gameplay in MP3 is the best part. The first time I played this game was at my best friend's house and I think I played the first level 3 or 4 times just to show him and his brother how cool it was, and how awesome the very first boss looked (on the federation ship).
Samus is now able to view the inside of her spacecraft and manually hit buttons inside her ship. She can use a communications radio channel, view a galaxy map and use an options menu inside the ship. While a couple of these are really not usefull to complete the game there are a few easter eggs dealing with her ship.
The few planets in this game are big and beautiful. I would have liked to see more planets to explore but I really satisfied with was was there. The zone layout is different from other Metroid games as instead of only 1 planet to explore with several areas, there are 3 planets now with 2 or 3 areas to explore on each. While altogether there aren't as many different named zones as there was in Super Metroid or Metroid Prime, the worlds are arguably bigger and more complex.
Elysia is by far the most advanced world to navigate in the series as there are many cannons and grapple points to traverse between the areas in the sky. Bryo is also pretty interesting. It has a jungle, fire and a small ice area which can be accessed a little later in the game. I would have liked to see a larger ice area like what was in Prime 1 but it doesn't take away from the gameplay at all. The fire area is also not as awesome as in the original Prime but hey, the zones here are still pretty sweet!
The boss fights are pretty amazing. Some are very easy and others can be pretty tricky and difficult. There is a lot of manual aiming to be done when fighting bosses which can be good and bad. A lot of key firing spots on bosses are hard to hit because they're either too small or the boss is moving around too much to get a good shot off. But it just takes a patience and if you can avoid the boss's attacks then you can obviously get more attempts at destroying it. The bosses are big and intimidating as always! The metroid series never failed to give huge and epic boss battles and this game proves no different. Although each planet's seed bosses are by far the largest (they are world bosses and they should be!), the mini bosses pose a high threat as well. They are fast and vicious and will always keep you on your toes.
I would have liked the game to be a bit longer. I collected 100% rating just 15 hours into the game and unlocked the best ending my first play through, but that was also on Normal difficulty. Even so it seemed too short the time was very well worth it. I'm not one that plays every game in normal, hard or very hard difficulty levels since I play so many different games, but I have to say I think I actually died a couple times on some boss fights on normal difficulty :P.
I give the gameplay a 5 out of 5.
Bottom line - if you love the Metroid Series then you'll love this game! I really think it is the best in the Prime series, but that is, of course, my opinion.
I give Metroid Prime 3 a 4.75 out of 5.

This game is good and has provided hours of fun. I like all the new stuff they added to the metroid universe, but this game gets really boring when you're at the half-way point, and you'll probably keep getting stuck causing much frustration.
If you decide to get Metroid Prime 3, buy the players guide along with it.

I don't have much time to write a review right now (I will come back later and fill in more), but let me just say this: anyone and everyone should play this game - it's really that fun. If you are at all interested in buying this, stop looking and start driving to the nearest store that has it, and buy it. You won't regret it!
Puzzling game with lots of Action May 14, 2008
This game has many puzzles to discover while keeping it exciting and fun at the same time.
Graphics A- Not bad at all for a wii game.
Sound B Gets repetitive and annoying at some times.
Length A Plenty of levels, have spent six and I'm only 18% done.
Gameplay A Great use of the wii controler.
Main Point: Great first person shooter game, best one out for the wii. A must buy for any wii owner, only downside is that there is no multiplayer.
Metroid Prime is Primetime! March 24, 2008
This is great game for the wii. The Graphics are excellent considering that the wii game console only cost 250 bucks! It takes a little gettting used to using the wii remote to shoot at targets, but once you get the hang of it it moved pretty fast. The only con that I would have about the game is the wii remote play. I would rather prefer a remote similiar to the xbox 360 so you hands don't get as tired. Would I recommend this to others? Yes! Enjoy...
