THE Guide to purchase along with Metal Gear Solid 4!! August 6, 2008 As a fan of Metal Gear since it's debut 20 some years ago, I have to say I have never seen a guide this impressive and detailed for a MGS game, and I have them all. This is THE guide guys and gals to purchase with your copy of the PS3 Exclusive Epic, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
The hardcover guide covers literally every nook and cranny of MGS4; wether it be the single-player story, Metal Gear Online, Full Inventory List of weapons and items you can acquire, Secrets (Unlockables, Play-through Emblems, hidden goodies in-game), a bonus AMAZING Litho from Yoji Shinkawa (Godfather of Metal Gear's distinct art style) and a written intro by Mr. Hideo Kojima himself.
Trust me fellow MGS fans, with this guide you will be like Solid Snake himself...Legendary.
You can't go wrong with it. I highly, HIGHLY recommend it.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! August 3, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This Collector's Edition version of the official MGS4 game guide is fantastic!
First of all, if you're not interested in the additional features of the Collector's Edition, then save yourself the money and get the standard edition Metal Gear Solid 4: Prima Official Game Guide instead. It's significantly cheaper, and is exactly the same with the following exceptions:
- The Collector's Edition is hardcover. - Collector's Edition includes an additional chapter detailing some of the great Metal Gear artwork. - Collector's Edition includes a numbered lithograph by Yoji Shinkawa.
Either product will be worth the money to anyone that wants to get the most out of the game. I purchased this guide after I had completed the game once already, and I'd recommend this to anyone interested in the guide. Don't use the guide on your first time through, or it may inadvertently ruin some of the surprises and fun bits that pop up throughout.
The thought that the maps are too hard to read, as mentioned in another review, seems ridiculous to me. The maps have been of great help when determining shortest routes, or finding items that you may need. Granted, it may sometimes take a minute of staring at the map to determine your current position, but I don't think they could have done much better than they did.
You will get a TON of advice every step of the way. It will tell you the best way to get through the each map normally, as well as how that strategy must change if you're trying a no-kill playthrough. It will also give you adjustments that you may need to make based on the difficulty setting that you're playing on.
The guide includes a listing of every weapon in the game, along with a description, how to attain it, and its characteristics. There is a similar listing for items available in the game. There's a full listing of available Face Camo and how to attain them, and another for iPod tunes.
There's a full listing of available emblems that you can earn upon completion of the game. There are also strategies on how to get as many of these emblems as possible in the shortest number of playthroughs.
And of course, one of my favorite parts of the guide, is the summary of the entire MGS story, from beginning to end.
Overall, the guide is fantastic. If you don't care about the 3 differences stated above, then I'd recommend the standard edition guide. Either way, you're getting a LOT of guide for your money, and you're getting a LOT of extra value out of your game purchase as well. For example, I doubt that I would have played through this game more than 2 or 3 times without the guide. But with all the information presented in the guide, I'm currently finishing up my 6th run, and I already have plans for my 7th.
so Good~ July 30, 2008 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
you should not miss this game. Only PS3 can done the job. Xbox360 will never done it
Great Guide July 5, 2008 This Metal Gear Guide book is the perfect guide book if you are new to the series because it tells you back story and explains all of the characters quite well. It also has a lithograph included that is a limited numbered edition. The walkthroughs are very detailed and the extras and secrets to getting the goods are all very thorough and the best I have seen in a guide book in a while. If you are new to the series or you just like the extra pizzazz then this guide will be the one for you.
A must have for Metal Gear Fans June 17, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This Limited Edition Collector's guide is a MUST have for fans of the game. It comes with a nice Collectible Lithograph and the guide is packed with colorful pictures and content. The game playthrough guide is spoiler free so you can follow along with the game and not spoil any key elements to the story. There are also more detailed sections (with spoilers) that you can follow along with after you beat the game the first time so that you can work to uncover all of the secrets in the game.
It's great that the guide also has a complete Synopsis of the whole Metal Gear Story (not just from Metal Gear Solid 4). This is great because the game and series is packed heavy with soooo much story that it's helpful to be able to go back to the synopsis and reaffirm the story. Definetly a nice hard cover guide that I highly reccommend.
