A Gameboy Advance Must! January 3, 2005 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought my daughter a gamboy advance SP for her birthday in November. She just turned 5, and is really getting into video games. She has been purchasing a few games here and there for it. Then she also asked and asked for a Gamecube, because her cousin had one and she loved the Super Smash Bro. game. So my mother bought her it for Christmas! She loves having it, but only had a few games. I was planning on purchasing the cable to connect the gameboy and Gamecube together, and then came across this item. It looks perfect. And it nearly is! It was VERY simple to connect, and now all she has to do is insert the startup disk, and put one of her gameboy advance games in the slot provided. She was tickled to death. All the games she loves on Gameboy, she can now play them on the Gamecube also. It's amazing. All the gameboy games, now can serve 2 purposes! Although the quality of the picture is slightly less on the tv than on the gameboy screen, it is still worth every penny! I guess it can't be perfect. It's a must have for anyone owning a Gamecube and Gameboy!!!!!!!!
A must-have for gamers! January 3, 2005 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
I remember playing Atari games as a kid, and how much fun that was. I always enjoyed playing video games, and when I was in my thirties, purchased a Game Boy Advance for myself. I was pleased to see that the old games I remember from the late 70's were still available. However, now that I am 40 something, it's a bit more difficult to see the images on the GBA screen. I received a Gamecube system for Christmas, and while I enjoyed the newer games, I wished that I could play my old favorites on a larger screen.I found the Game Boy Player by accident, and figured "Why not?" I attached it to the Gamecube, and was blown away! The graphics are excellent, and it's easier on these older eyes. I would reccommend this to anyone! This device has certainly added to the Nintendo Gamecube library. A great addition to a great system!

gameboys are designed to play in the car. I would never play a gameboy game over a 3-D perfect colored gamecube. Why would anyone want this. [...] If you perfer gameboy over gamecube then you will like this. I might want to add that you are crazy if you think that gameboys are better than gamecube even when you can play each at a time you can play either one. There is no competition between a plug in system and a portable. [...] It folds down and allows you to easily and convienently play gamecube whenever you want. The screen is about 5 inches.
No Gamecube owner should be without one! December 9, 2004 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
The gameboy player is a definite must-have for anyone who owns a Gamecube. Bring it home, remove the cover from the high-speed port on the bottom of the Gamecube, place the gameboy player underneath, and tighten the screw with a penny. With almost no effort at all you're ready to play Game Boy games on the big screen. Simply put the disc in the disc tray and a game in the cartridge slot and off you go.
The first obvious advantage is the ability to play on your TV. No more wasting batteries on your GBA or recharging the pack on your GBA SP. The images are much larger but at the cost of a little graininess (not bad though). You have the option to play at 75% screen size (for those who want a sharper, cleaner image) or at 90% screen size. Either way you will have a border around the game screen; there is no way to increase it to 100%.
Other options include the ability to choose from one of a couple of controller configurations. This is not real useful as there is no way to fully customize the button layout. My only other gripe here is that the control pad on the GC controller can be a little tough to use due to its size. It's still very playable but a minor annoyance on a few games. You can also set the screen resolution (soft, normal, sharp). It's supposed to help improve the look of some games on the big screen, but I have never found it necessary to use this feature so I won't comment on it. A timer is available if you want to limit a child's time on the system or to make sure children are taking turns. The last option, and best, in my opinion, is the game change option. You can change gamepaks without turning the system off. The only wait time is the Gameboy Advance screen coming up; you don't have to wait for the start-up to load again.
The gameboy player features full connectivity to other GBA or GBA SP systems for multiplayer games. One person plays on screen and the others play on their Game Boy screens. It features full e-reader support as well. About the only two things you can't do with this that you can with the portable are: 1) Take it on the go. DUH!
2) Use it for Gamecube games that have GBA connectivity.
Otherwise it is a fully functioning Game Boy Advance and it effectively adds over 1,000 potential games to your existing Gamecube library. It is a cheaper option for those who never play portable systems and it allows you to experience some of the best and most well-known games ever created. No Gamecube owner should be without one!
How bad do you need to see your GB games on a TV screen? November 29, 2004 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
Now, Nintendo could have just given me a device that lets me plug in a GB/A/SP game into the gamecube and play it just like a gamecube game, and I would have been absolutely thrilled. I would have given this product five stars. But I have subtracted two stars instead. One for each major gripe I had with this product. First, There is a dumb-looking purple frame around whatever game you happen to be playing. You can have it occupy 25% of the screen in what they call "normal" mode, or 10% in what they call "full" mode, but you can't get rid of it entirely no matter what you do, so you ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have to feel like you're looking into two television screens instead of one, which is a horrible feeling to have. The second star down comes from HORRIBLE compatability issues. Nintendo has blundered once more into the creation of this product, once again spitting pompously in the faces of anybody but themselves who makes console accessories for their own console. It didn't take me long to figure out that only Gamecube controllers SPECIFICALLY MADE by Nintendo will work on this little item, which means that I'm screwed because only one my gamecube controllers is made by Nintendo and it's broken. The controls are set up (according to the instruction booklet) really well. That's fine. The control transition from GBA to GCN was really good. In every other respect, this item performs its function, and I'm glad I got it, but I just thought you might want to know a little about the problems it has.
