Tetris rocks April 1, 2008 This game is awesome, why Nintendo stopped selling it is beyond me. Wifi support is cool, I can play competitive tetris with random folks on the internet, what is not to like. The different modes are also very cool, some interesting variants on classic tetris. This cart is a must have.
SO much fun! March 12, 2008 I enjoyed Tetris on my original NES system growing up, like many. When my boyfriend bought me a DS and Tetris, it brought back fond memories. This version, however, is so much more than original Tetris. Fun graphics and music from classic Nintendo games, a multitude of different modes, and multiplayer mode make this my favorite game ever. I've since bought more games for my DS, and I still play this more than any other.
I take the train to and from work, giving me plenty of time to play. I've gotten so good vs. the CPU that I now beat my boyfriend every time! I just hit level 19 in Marathon mode today, and I'm up to puzzle #97 out of 200 in Puzzle mode. There are so many ways to play this game, I never get bored.
Very fun! February 2, 2008 I love this game. It is very fun as 1 or 2 player. Great for all ages, My parents play this game and so do I! We have nieces that play it too. Colorful, addictive, an fun. Well worth the 29.99 that it retails for!
WHY!!! December 17, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I went to the store yesterday and picked this game up for 20 dollars so why are people selling copies of a 20 dollar game for 90 to 100 bucks that dont seem right
Best complete Tetris package ever - but not the best single player experience December 8, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
What more can be said about this game? It has a host of new, interesting Tetris modes, is filled with enough Nintendo fanservice to choke even the most obsessed otaku, and brings an absolutely amazing multiplayer experience that is worth the cost of admission alone.
Rather than focus on all the wonderful aspects of this game, I will point out the one thing that it lacks. It's a problem that is often overlooked in reviews, and because of it I will not be able to give up my old copy of Tetris DX for the Game Boy Color: That one thing is a "pure" single-player Tetris experience; the kind that you slip into like a hot bath, a transcendent meditation where each block is a little piece of self-realization, where 400 lines into the game you have disappeared, the world around you has disappeared, and only the little colored shapes remain.
Achieving this kind of experience requires sticking to the original Tetris formula: The difficulty curve should allow longer playtimes and higher line counts, the blocks should fall properly, and they should stop moving properly. Tetris DS has issues on all three fronts: The difficulty curve gets insane. The primary goal of the normal single-player game is to get to 200 lines. Forget 400 -- by the time you've hit 150 lines the blocks don't fall so much as teleport into place, and the only thing that allows you to set them properly is the fact that you can rotate the blocks as much as you please before they "set". You could theoretically rotate the piece forever. The proper way to implement this is to have the blocks fall at a slower speed and have a set amount of time between when they touch the stack and when they're set. Some have called this issue a "bug" in Tetris DS, but I think it must have been a deliberate (albeit odd) design choice, because I can't see getting to 200 lines without it.
Again, this is just my attempt to point out the one thing lacking in this game, because it may be important to Tetris purists. You won't be able to play the kind of long, contemplative games you could in Tetris DX, or the original Tetris for the Game Boy. In all other respects, this is easily the best Tetris game ever made, and every DS owner should have a copy.
