A great game, fun and educational March 5, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
When I was deciding which game to get my 8-year-old son for christmas, I was looking for a game that would have enough action to keep my son entertained, but that would also require some thinking on his part other than with which weapon to kill which monster. Rune Factory turned out to be the perfect game for him.
Unlike most games nowadays, where 90 percent of the gameplay is senseless fighting, Rune Factory has a good balance of action, planning and organizing. The main character finds himself without memory in a strange town. A girl finds him and offers him a plot of land and some farming tools. To earn the right to explore caves and fight or tame monsters (yes, you can actually make friends with monsters!!!), you have to plow your fields and grow crops first.
I found the game quite educational for my son. Of course, he is most interested in fighting the monsters in the cave, but to do so successfully, he first had to organize his fields, and develop routines (water fields after getting up, fishing on rainy days to get money to buy weapons, talk to people and help them to make friends, etc.). Even in the caves, strategic planning on what to plant and how to maintain it determines how long one can stay in the caves, and how well a player can heal. By now, this is his favorite game, not only because it is very versatile and has many challenges, but also because this has been the first game he hasn't been able to finish within a week or two. After two months of playing, he still isn't even anywhere close to finishing the game. While I consider most games to be a waste of money, this one sure was worth its cost.
Best Harvest Moon Game! February 19, 2008 Great game that will get you hooked! If you like the Harvest Moon games, then you will love this one, the caves and the monsters give it a great touch! If you haven't played Harvest Moon, then this will be perfect to get you addicted! The wifi is amazing because you can trade and level up items such as weapons, fish (for marrying a maiden in the game) The graphics is much better than the regular HM games and the music is cute too! You will not regret getting this game!
Also, when you do get the game, visit this forum: [...] It's a great community for those who have the game already! You can trade friend codes, talk and make friends!
It's okay February 8, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
for first time Harvest moon players I wouldn't recommend this game. It is harvest moon with dungeons. it is good to start but once you get to misty bloom. it gets annoying because that cave is ONLY available in winter. if you like me you have to wait 3 seasons to get in (i defeated the boss on mt. gigant at 28 winter and they say don't go into misty bloom on new years because it will corrupt your saved game). i have everyone up to 10 on love and friendship and I chose my wife already. so i am now bored out of my mind with this game. i heard there is a sequel. i do hope it is better. over all though this game is okay but not what i expected from a harvest moon game.
A must February 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is one of the best games I've ever played. I recommend it to any RPG and simulation fans.
Your caracter has amnesia, so somewhat odd girl Mist makes you pick a name and lets you live on her overgrown farm which is right by the town of Kardia. You plow, seed, water and harvest crops which you can keep for cooking or sell for money. Partcipate in the local festivals to make friends and meet potencial brides. Soon you can expand your house. Once your house is expanded, you can forge your own weapons and accessories. You can also furnish your house to make it look nicer. By giving gifts or doing special things on festival days, you can win the heart of one of the (?)ten girls of Kardia.
There are caves dotted around Kardia, and you need a pass from the mayor to enter them. Inside, there are strange machines which summon monsters. You can befriend monsters and bring them back to your farm (you need a monster hut first). They can harvest or water the crops, produce wool or milk, or accompany you in the caves and fight by your side. In each cave, their is a Greater Demon which you must defeat (or, according to the plot, save). You can also farm in caves. The climate never changes, which is necessary for the slower growing plants.
Did I mention it has really nice graphics?
This is a great game. Hope this review helped.
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!! **** February 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this game. It is great for a gamer who is sick of the usual hack and slash and needs a different kind of break. I had never played a Harvest Moon title before so I am coming from that perspective. I played Animal Crossing and liked it ok, so I thought I would try this game out and I am GLAD that I did.
It is alot of fun and is in my opinion more fun then Animal Crossing as it has a bit more challenge to it. I think the graphics are cute and done well and it offers quite a few different things to do.
I had been getting burned out on all my fighting based RPG PC and DS games and this was a really great break from that.
I will give one warning though.... THIS GAME IS EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE. So make sure you have time to sink into it before you get it.
