Xbox 360 is much smaller than its predecessor--it measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It's powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. It also carries a custom ATI graphics processor with 10 MB of embedded DRAM. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games on standard TVs, and even better looking ones on HDTV sets thanks to built-in support for HDTV (720p/1080i/1080p) resolutions. The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. For game-save and media storage, Xbox 360 Arcade System users can choose to stick with the Memory Unit included with the bundle, or upgrade to either the detachable 20GB hard drive or the 120 GB hard drive (both sold separately). The Xbox 360 Arcade System comes with one Xbox 360 Wireless Controller with rumble. Xbox 360 uses a refined button layout for its controllers. Back and Start buttons sit at the center of the controller and between them is a new Xbox Guide button, which instantly takes the user to the Xbox 360 user "Dashboard" interface. From there, they can check for friends online, access personal digital content like photos songs, and more. The black and white buttons of the first Xbox controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. The Xbox 360 can accommodate up to four wireless controllers and has three USB 2.0 slots to use for wired controllers or for streaming your digital media from digital cameras, MP3 players, and any Windows XP-based PC. Microsoft has also created a video-conferencing camera, sold separately, that will work with the system. 
The Media Experience
All Xbox 360 titles can be played in either standard or high-definition resolution in 16:9 widescreen, with anti-aliasing for smoother graphics. Game designers will be able to take advantage of the system's multi-channel surround sound. There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster online, Stamp. com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not use them to get a free Xbox 360 Elite or cash (I did the Stamps. com for a 4 week free trial and it is free!). Esta consola es lo mejor de lo mejor. Lo unico que lamento es que no es una Jasper pero si es una Falcon. La compré el 1 de noviembre de 2008 esperando que fuera de un lote mayor al 838 pero no fué asi. Mi xbox arcade es del lote 834. En realidad lo que mas me ha dolido es que el dvd drive no se puede flashear porque tiene un liteon. Tendré que comprar 5 o 6 juegos originales esta navidad hasta que pueda flashear el dvd. Aparte de todo lo que he dicho, puedo decir que el 360 es la mejor consola del mundo y que no me arrepiento de haberla comprado porque tiene el mejor catalogo de juegos y la mayor relacion entre calidad y precio!!!

If you take nothing else away from this review, understand that the Arcade bundle is simply an Xbox 360 without a hard drive and some games thrown in. The games are nothing to go crazy about, but you can't beat the price.
The fact that this version doesn't have a hard drive is important because backwards compatibility (the ability to play old Xbox games) relies on emulator software which gets installed to the hard drive. If you hear someone saying that the Arcade version can't play old Xbox games, they probably don't realize that all you have to do is install a hard drive. Microsoft is running a promotion where you can get a 20GB hard drive with a free Gold Live subscription for around $30. This is way cheaper than retail.
It's also worth mentioning that some industrious individuals have figured out how use an inexpensive (~$60) 120GB (Western Digital BEVS) hard drive rather than paying four times as much for Microsoft's version. If you're interested I suggest googling "HDDHackr".
It appears that Microsoft has made some improvements on the Xbox 360 since they first came out, especially in cooling to help prevent the dreaded "Red Ring of Death" (RROD) which results from your console overheating. This is a great reason to buy one of these new consoles rather than a used one or old bundle.
If you've got the money, check out the Pro or Elite. If you're like me and would rather put that cash into a premium drum set for Rock Band 2 or rechargeable wireless controllers, the Arcade version is a great option.

I don't actually own a version of the Arcade system ( i do have a hard drive and 360-launch system), but I wanted to submit a review to counter the low score provided by the absolutely incompetent review below... reviewing Gamestop has nothing to do with the quality of Xbox 360, which is an excellent system! Xbox Live, system exclusives (GOW!), and the ability to customize your system as you need (no paying for wireless unless you actually want it, etc.) make this an excellent game system, and the $200 price point makes it a great way to get in on this generation of consoles.

After having my ps3 stolen I went to GAME STOP, called first, was told they would give me $10 above trade-in for ps3 games must trade in 2, I had just purchased from them maden 2008, they said 25 cents (I had just bought from them for 19.95) so I did not qualify as you had to have 2 trade-ins worth over $1, also was informed that MS had new 20 gig hard drives for $40.00. after driving 25 miles each way then finding out the 20gig was $80 at MS site. the 11 free games turned out to be 5. Beware of Game stop. they will not return calls nor will there district manager (mail box full). Just a bunch of crooks.
