Product Description You're shipwrecked! Luckily no one was hurt and most of the passengers set sail for their destinations, but you found an abandoned homestead on a remote island. With hard work and skillful farming, you will prosper and help your adventurous shipmates establish a new village with roads, bridges and exciting places to visit. There's a lot of farming to do, people to date and animals to care for. It's a new beginning and a chance to raise a farming family of your own.
Amazon.com In Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness players' plans to start a new life are drastically changed when the ship you are on is destroyed by a tropical storm. Now you find yourself stranded on an isolated island with a family of four from the ship. However, it seems that the island once was inhabited before
what happened to the people that used to live there? As you develop the island by growing crops, taking care of animals and expanding your farm, others will start to move onto the island and this mystery may be solved. The better you do, the more the island will grow. Though it was not your original dream, now is your chance to create your very own paradise.
 Create your own paradise |
Farming provides food and prestige. View larger. | Find happiness with the perfect mate. View larger. | Track character status and assets. View larger. | Enjoy farm-flavored mini games. View larger. | First Things First: Farming Working with your fellow refugees, your first order of business is to create a farm. With what you grow you will soon be able to feed yourself and your fellow castaways and eventually will graduate to raising animals (some of the animals included are: cows, sheep, chickens and ducks). As you build up your farm, people who have an interest in the farming business move on over to the island and seek you out. These people open up shops and facilities, contributing to the island's development, and provide you with new areas to explore and new people to speak with.
Getting Married What good is paradise without someone to share it with? Once players have established themselves on the island by building and maintaining a farm and successfully raising animals on their homestead they will begin to notice that there are quite a few more people on the island than they initially suspected. Like yourself, many of these new faces are looking for someone to share their lives with. In addition to success on the farm, marriage also requires a few other requirements, but once satisfied you are free to play the field, go on dates and search available profiles for that special someone. But be careful. You will not be compatible with everyone you meet. Just a few or the bachelors and bachelorettes you will run into are: | Name: Natalie Gender: Female Bio: Natalie is one of the people who is shipwrecked on the island with you. She can be rather rough, a tomboy and competitive, and usually makes fun of her brother. | | Name: Vaughn Gender: Male Bio: An exotic animal dealer, Vaughn has a very serious, almost emotionless attitude. He comes to the islands on Wednesdays and Thursdays and carries a lot of money. | | Name: Sabrina Gender: Female Bio: Sabrina came to the island with her father, who is president of the mining company. She is a quiet, shy girl who helps her father with his work and is very interested in ores. | | Name: Shea Gender: Male Bio: Shea is the adopted son of the witch doctor, Wada. He helps Wada by guarding his hens, ducks and birds from the Demon Bears. Unlike other bachelors, his heart is invisible. | | Name: Witch Princess Gender: Female Bio: The Witch Princess grew tired of living in Forget-Me-Not Valley and so moved to the island in hopes of meeting new people. In addition, she heard that the Harvest Goddess is here. She keeps 21 small teddy bears and one large one in her house and has an invisible heart. | | Name: Denny Gender: Male Bio: Denny is very familiar with the sea. He heard there's a lot to be found on the island, so when his mother told him to meet new people he came to check it out. Though normally cheerful, he has quite a temper when mad. | The island is full of challenges, but with hard work and skillful farming, you will prosper and help your adventurous shipmates establish a new village with roads, bridges and exciting places to visit. There's a lot of farming to do, people to date and animals to care for. It's a new beginning and a chance to raise a farming family of your own.

Harvest Moon Strikes Again November 12, 2008 This game is quite different from the Playstation and Super Nintendo Harvest Moon games I used to play. I never bought any of the other Harvest Moon DS games, because I was waiting for another boy/girl addition.
Many reviews I have read complained about using the stylist in the game. I found the stylist to be a great addition. When I pick up a DS game, I want to be able to use the stylist and not have to use the directional buttons.
Of course, the game is repetitive (what Harvest Moon game isn't) and I know my hands cramp up after a couple hours of playing.
Overall though, I thought the game was excellent.
Improving on a Classic! November 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I first got interested in Harvest moon with the first Gameboy Advance Game, I will say I am impressed more and more every time a new Harvest Moon title comes out. This game once again goes much deeper than the others released before and can keep you occupied for hours on end! If this is the first Harvest Moon title you will make as a purchase I highly recommend it! Realizing what improvements come about in each new edition I await the time when a Harvest Moon title comes out that will be so massive and extensive words won't be able to describe it.
Extremely Happy I Bought This Game October 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading all the reviews here i was really unsure about getting this game. I finally caved in and im so glad i did. Ill make this review easy, if you like Any of the Harvest Moon's you will like this one. Like the other HM its hard at the start because you tire out quickly from planting/watering crops, but it gets easier and more intresting as you go along. What i like the most is how many neighbors/friends you get to have. The island and the land you have is huge compared to HMDS (the first one) I rate the fun of this game a 5 star. Overall i rated it a 4 and its because of only one reason. You have to use the stylus for just about everything and it can be frustrating. Alot of the reviews i read mentioned this was a problem for them too, however you do get used to it and it gets easier. I would of liked having the option to use the control pad. Dont let this stop you from buying the game! Im really glad i did, i have been playing for a week and still cant put it down. Hope this review helps ENJOY!!
Love October 18, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Love any Harvest Moon game but this one definitely has to be the best so far. A perfect combo of all the previous ones. Great for kids or adults.
Stylus not a problem - really fun! October 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first Harvest Moon game, and I am really pleased! I was considering not getting it because of all the complaints about the difficult stylus control; however, this is really not a problem. The use of the stylus is actually very intuitive and easy....if you are not an experienced ds user then maybe it would be hard but I really don't see why it would be hard for anybody to use stylus control. Actually, it's much better than button control. Other than that, the game is very enjoyable! You can choose gender which is a perk, and it is fun to talk to the islanders. The only tricky thing is that you can't start dating/marrying right away. You have to complete certain requirements first, like really developing your farm in order for other people to arrive. i have been playing for a little less than a month and I am still not dating yet, so it takes time. But i think the 1UP reviewer really captures the essence of the game- it is "methodical yet addictive!" Its really fun to see the seasons pass and watch crops and animals grow. At first it is hard to earn money, but once you have plentiful crops accumulating and build a chicken coop, you gain money pretty quickly. What is fun about the game is that unlike Animal Crossing (which is also really fun) you have to work towards something in order to progress in the game. This makes you want to keep playing and you have a sort of goal to accomplish. The reason I got rid of a star is because it can be tricky to get the game going at first, but then overall fun is definitely five out of five. Another thing is that when you hold items or ship things, you have to be careful that the arrow is showing or you will lose your item, so pay attention and watch for the arrow before letting go of your stylus! This isn't a big problem, though. Overall, this is a game worth buying and having to use the stylus shouldn't prevent you from experiencing a fun game like this one! I especially think Island of Happiness is a good place to start if you've never tried Harvest Moon (the Wii version looks fun too!) So go out and get it!
