Building on the Call of Duty4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War thrusts players into the ruthless and gritty chaos of WWII combat and challenges them to band together to survive the most harrowing and climactic battles in both the European and Pacific theaters. The title re-defines WWII games by offering an uncensored experience with unique enemies, jawdropping fire power like the flamethrower, and combat variety, including Kamikaze fighters, ambush attacks, Banzai charges and cunning tactics, as well as explosive on-screen action through all new cooperative gameplay.

Features:

  • Multiplayer - Call of Duty: World at War supports intense, online multiplayer action using the Call of Duty4: Modern Warfare engine. Bringing multiplayer to the Wii for the first time in the Call of Duty franchise, players will be able battle it out in a variety of game types, plus upgrade and customize characters by using perks and completing challenges.
  • Squadmate Mode - This single-screen cooperative mode lets players team up to play alongside friends and family. At any moment, a second Wii Remote can be activated, giving the second player their own aiming crosshair to provide cover and added firepower while fighting alongside their Squadmate.
  • Combat-Look - Call of Duty: World at War includes "Combat-Look" technology - as the player runs through the game's diverse environments and topographies, the vertical line of sight discreetly adapts to keep players focused on the battlefield without having to radically adjust for uphill/downhill grade variations in the terrain. This system still allows complete freedom and mobility for targeting and results in a smoother and more playable Wii experience.
  • Wii Zapper Support - Call of Duty: World at War fully supports Nintendo's Zapper controller through a customized game setting that allows the entire game, including multi-player, to be played with the Zapper. This customized setting adds a new way to play by incorporating unique gestures and button layouts that add to the Call of Duty experience.

Product Description
Go to war in the final tension-filled, unforgiving battles against a new ferocious enemy in the most dangerous and suspenseful action ever seen in WWII. Call of Duty: World at War throws out the rulebook of war to transform WWII combat through a new enemy, new tactics and an uncensored experience of the climatic battles that gripped a generation. As U.S. Marines and Russian soldiers, you will employ new features like cooperative gameplay, and weapons such as the flamethrower in the most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date.

3 out of 5 stars WII version is bad   November 23, 2008
0 out of 11 found this review helpful

I am not a pro player. I only played COD 1&2 on Xbox, 3&4 on 360. BF2 & MoH airborne on PC. I bought WII version because I returned my 360 after it scratched my COD 4 and costco wouldn't allow me switch the game. I'd say the graphic of COD 5 WII version is similar to 1 and MoH pacific. I could hardly see Japs in the first couple of chapters. I use a 52 LCD, but it only make thing worse. Like some other players, I like to use enemy equipments because ammo is easier to find, not so much in COD 5. I don't fill the excitement as I only need to follow others to get the target. I played the recruit to taste the game, don't want to waste time any more.

I am a fan of COD and MoH, so I may buy a PC version or PS3 version (If I can buy a PS3 for its blu-ray) to give it another try. One last thing, this is not the first WII shooting game I returned. If you like shooting game, give up trying the WII version.

4 out of 5 stars Geatd game... Better online   November 22, 2008

Since this game was made by the same guys who did call of duty 3 on the wii, i was a little skeptical but overall this game is great. Campaign mode is fun but it is very generic. Missions are interesting and overall difficult and it makes you focus to get it done, but it lacks a lot of intense excitement. Wifi online play on the other hand is chock full of excitement. The best thing is, you can play over and over again and still have fun, all for free if you have a wifi connection. The console does very good at handling it, even on wifi it doesnt really lag much. Although the online multiplayer only allows up to 8 players and limited modes of gameplay, i have not had the need for any more than that. Sound is great and graphics are amazing for the wii, even on my rather old TV I can still see clearly.
Overall its a great game and its even better with wifi multiplayer. I would definitely pass up the xbox 360 or PS3 versions for this one

Positives:
1) Good graphics (amazing for the wii)
2) Great sound and gameplay feeling in general
3) Amazing Online gameplay, never get tired of it

Negatives
1) Not an original campaign (so far, i havnt gone through too much yet)

5 out of 5 stars Best online wii game with solid single player   November 21, 2008

Single Player:
It has a great story that is very mature but well scripted. It is also quite challenging on the harder difficulties.

Mulitplayer:
This is where the game shines. All the perks, classes, attachments, upgrades, levels, leaderboards, stats are in there which is great. Plenty of maps that are varied both in terrain and style. No waiting for games and I haven't experienced any lag yet. I couldn't find the awesome filters and searches that MOHH2 had but the quick match has worked flawlessly for me so far.

Controls:
There are a good amount of options that let you adjust and fine tune both normal and 'down the sights' camera controls and bounding boxes. The cursor is responsive and smooth.

Finally the game just plays great. The single player is fun and gets you some practice for the multiplayer. The hit detection online is good and the graphics are much better than most games. If you like online FPS then stop reading and go get the game.

9.0 Presentation
I actually really like how the present the story and explain the history with real footage and good scripting.

8.0 Graphics
They did a great job creating open jungle levels and big multiplayer maps. The guns look really nice as well
as many other textures.

8.0 Sound
Great gun and bullet sounds as well as explosions. Some of the foreign voice acting could have been better but no complaints.

9.0 Gameplay
Single player is fast and intense. Multiplayer is addictive and rewarding. Controls are varied and responsive. Most importantly, it is FUN!

9.0 Lasting Appeal
I can see myself playing online for quite some time. I also noticed that there are already many many people playing this game so the more the merrier ;)

8.8 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

3 out of 5 stars a yawn game   November 19, 2008
6 out of 16 found this review helpful

I played campaign mode for less than an hour and quickly lost interest.
Graphics are so so, you can't get any thing from enemies you killed, control is OK. I feel like I am just one small piece of a big machine, there is nothing I can do to change anything, just follow whatever game designed.

Compare it with Resident Evil 4, this game is just average. Not much fun.

5 out of 5 stars GERNADE!!!!!!   November 19, 2008

ths game BLOW my mind....i played it for about 13 hours when i first got it which was november 11 i spent the night outside of gamestop and picked it up..well worht the wait well mostly...........
there are MAJOR flaws to this game yet things that should never be changed. for example the single campain yet fun is hard very hard even on easy normal or wat ever its difficult which is a good thing cause games that have crappy AIS are just horrible the online is fun but they should of added more maps like cod4 where you buy new maps this game uses the cod4 engine which was a great idea and the stats levels and weapons unlocks are fun to work for im level 53 and it took me about a week and some days to get there a long timeespecially becuase i play about 4 hours a day the flamethrower which is unlocked at level 62 is amazing best weapon ever here are my pros and cons

PROS:
the graphics are very good for the wii
online is awsome
4vs4 online is challenging which makes it INTENSE
the weapon upgrades the levels the stats make you want to play it longer then usual i do admit i got very bored of this game after playing a long time but it happens
the single campain is fun and not as short as cod3
there are more but i cant think of any right now
CONS:
there are not enough maps
no wii speak
graphics could be better
gameplay gets very repeative
no cars that i no of yet
thats it GIVE THEM NO MERCEY
