4 out of 5 stars good game   September 1, 2010
kj (Chicago, IL)
My family and I love the wii play/wii sports version of tennis so much I couldn't wait to buy this one. It is a very good game, has lots of challenges and options. I did not give it a 5 star simply for the fact that sometimes very rarely but sometimes it does not register my hit accurately. However it is still a great game.

2 out of 5 stars Great Fun for Awhile   July 31, 2010

The learning curve on this game was very frustrating, I felt like a spastic imbecile for the first week: I would swing and nothing happened, my player suddenly turned her back to the ball as it approached, etc. Slowly, it came around. I learned to follow my player's lead: if she wanted to hit a forehand then, by gosh, that is what I would do. I really started to enjoy the game...for about two weeks. I racked up 5 stars and some gold abilities before it all unraveled and, somehow, my player was functionally reset to imbecile level again after a Grand Slam or two. I created a new player, was working my way up the ranks when, suddenly, the default arm position for the player became the "hailing cab" position. I tried holding the wiimote steady in between shots, gently tapping the wiimote, button-side down in my hand, re-setting the wiimote, trying the other wiimote to no avail: my player is terminally out of sync with the game. She overruns the ball, she freezes, she won't swing when I serve, and she falls down and doesn't get up, all the while holding the racket high and to the right. I can't find a solution on any of the forums. It is very disappointing because I know how much fun the game is when things are working properly. While I can't swear that it isn't a problem with my Wii or both wiimotes (how likely is that), I have to say that the game has great potential but just too many glitches to make it much fun for very long. Oh, and another thing: if you buy the game, note that you can indeed turn off Pat Cash's annoying commentary. Huge improvement.

2 out of 5 stars Promising but very "jerky" experience snuffs the joy out   June 16, 2010
Vizzy (Bay area, CA)
Most of the previous reviews pretty much capture it all. This game shows great potential around graphics, player imitations and ability to hit top-spin etc. But very poor by way of usability and has some really annoying "glitches".

Usability - in a nutshell: very difficult to get a hang of. Menus, options etc. are not self-explanatory and the help section is anything but helpful. Very difficult to figure out how to get ahead in this game.

Glitches - the player you control does some really annoying things like overrun the ball, switch forehand/back-hand at the last second etc. which makes for a very jerky and frustrating experience.

I would recommend sticking to the default tennis game on the Wii even though it lacks in graphics/sophistication. This EA version promises a lot but is hardly enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars Challenging game of Tennis   June 12, 2010

I had maxed out my other tennis games. It will take me a while to get better on this Wii product but that is okay.

3 out of 5 stars OK Game. Could have been alot better!   June 8, 2010
Anthony C. Thomas (Bay Area, CA)
The game play is spot on as far as wii motion feedback goes and the skill ratings are just as tight when going from easy to hard. Unfortunately it does not get me involved. I would love for better commentary because Honestly the three of four lines used during game play sucked!! they could add realness with the court refs and ball chasers actually being human like and movable instead of dead statues. and the grand slam tour is so un fulling I want to see interactions with the players I wanna have a mandatory practice and training with my coach to get better when I cant serve better or when My backhand gets weak or even when i have to many unforced errors I want to feel like Im becoming a better player emotionally with the game especially since i have to stand in a empty living room to play. And You cannot travel thru the grand slam tour with a partner in like a doubles play me and my girlfriend were looking forward to that. its fun for about a week or two then it moves to the bottom of the pile.
