A nice collection of games for the Wii September 6, 2008 It is a sort of shock to have Sonic, Sega's mascot, in any Nintendo platform. But you get used to it. I have a Wii, and thanks to the Wii's ability to play Gamecube's games, I saved a lot of money, compared to the cost of these games in the Virtual Console.
The games have all the flavor of the old consoles of Sega. They are fast, responsive, and fun. Way fun! As an old gamer myself, born and raised with the Atari, the NES and the Master System, I like old games. There is something simple about them: the important part was the player and not the game. In its time, I've never been able to finish a game, but that was not a fault of the game design or even myself as a gamer, but of the lack of time. Now, as a grown-up with a big moustache and my own business, and spare time, I was finally able to finish Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic 2, and I'm in the process of unlocking all the games in it. I'd love it if all the games where unlocked or modified to serve four players at a time, but these are in the original format and they are pretty good. I have no complains with this game. I like it. I like it a lot. And I'd love Nintendo releasing a collection of Mario's games in the original format.
Good games, collection could have been better. April 28, 2008 I love all the games on this disc. It includes Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and 3; Sonic and Knuckles; Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Plus some unlockable bonus games that I won't give away). The games, as I said, were good, but I think the collection disc could have been better. For example, they could have included a save feature for Sonic 1 and 2, and Sonic 3D Blast. But if you're looking for the old Sonic the Hedgehog games you remember from childhood and can't find them - here they are.
Just so so, not great. December 26, 2007 I found this game to be ok, nothing great but for hardcore Sonic fans this is the game for you. It has 7 Sonic classics like Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Pinball, etc.
get it while you can... December 19, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Nintendo game cube has been phased out so if you have a gamecube and dont have this game, get it while you can, It is clean non-violent gameing and good for smaller kids. I love playing it myself and I am fifty! lol
Delivers sonic to a new generation... at a price. May 11, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game collection is just what a new generation of gamers needs: a pile of good classics as they were meant to be played. I detest how there are less unlockable games than the japanese version, so it might be a good idea to get the japanese one if you like to unlock games. I also hate having to unlock games many times if I don't have a memory card, but I guess that's a problem with all game collections. Before buying this you should really consider how hard it would be to get the originals cartridges and an emulator (to play them legally on your PC). Note to the buyer: If you like this game collection you are missing out on "Sonic CD" which was a remake of the first Sonic game with many times more levels since there are past, present, and future versions of each. Sonic CD is also available on Gamecube as part of the "Sonic Gems Collection", but buyer beware that "Sonic Gems Collection" contains mostly Gamegear versions of said games and is generally not worth the money since the Gamegear versions were inferior in many ways. Still, if you are willing to buy the game this review is for, then you should check out the other half of the collection which is known as "Sonic Gems Collection" for the sake of completeness.
