5 out of 5 stars Playstation3 makes great Blu-ray/DVD/CD player   May 2, 2008

Although I only bought the Playstation3 as a Blu-ray player, I think we will get really caught up playing the immersive games. So far, as a Blu-ray, DVD, and CD player, the PS3 has been really dependable. The DVD upscaling and audio through the Toslink connector have been flawless. I will try to add to the gaming capabilities of this review later.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for any movie buff.   May 2, 2008
Watching movies at home has never been better with our sony playstation. I think it is better than the theater. We are not huge gamers, but we have tried out a couple games and they are awesome. Incredibly life like visuals.

5 out of 5 stars PS3 vs. Xbox 360 - Why to buy the Playstation   May 1, 2008

I recently bought an Xbox 360 after doing a great deal of research comparing it to the Playstation 3. I wanted both a gaming machine, but also a high definition DVD Player. Since I don't have a brand affiliation with Sony or Microsoft, I wanted the best bang for my buck. I ended up getting an Xbox 360 in February 2008, and returning it for a PS3 weeks later. Here was my decision making process.

Price: Although the XBOX doesn't have HD capability or wireless Ethernet right out of the box like the PS3, it's still cheaper than any model of PS3 currently offered. The difference is small now that Sony released their $400 bundle, so it's only a $50 delta between that and the cheapest Xbox 360. But once you do some investigation, you'll find that adding a HD player and wireless capabilities bring the price of the 360 Pro Value Bundle to well over $500. After I bought the XBOX and realized how much I would be spending to get the same capabilities already included with the PS3, I realized the PS3 is actually cheaper in the long-run.

Games: It's true that before 2008 the PS3 didn't have nearly as large of a game selection as the XBOX 360. However, the game selection is beginning to even out. Now that programmers have had a decent amount of time to develop for the PS3, almost all games are now released cross-platform.

HD Player: If you haven't heard, HD-DVD is dead and lost the battle to Blu-Ray. When I checked to see how Microsoft would support HD capability for the 360 after my purchase, I was stunned to discover they would not endorse HD but rather rely on streaming downloads for HD content. I feel this won't be pratical for a number of years. Now anyone stuck with an XBox 360 HD-Player won't be able to buy any new movies on HD, and it appears Microsoft won't make it Blu-Ray upgradable. Typical arrogant Microsoft.

Long-Time Value: The games on the PS3 are capable of holding much more data than those on the 360. Thus the integrated HD techonology makes it capable of supporting much better games in the future, and we could see the PS3 putting out games that simply are too powerful for the 360. Meanwhile, the 360 endorsed an HD technology that is end-of-life and essentially makes the entire platform obsolete if HD is of any concern in your purchase.

Bottom Line: Buy the PS3 and you won't regret it.

A final note: Amazon paid for all shipping on the return, no questions asked. Great service as always!

Best money spent. I'm able to use it for Blu Ray games, movies, web browsing, watching avi movies. It's the greatest investment.

Just about what you'd expect, decent gaming system and crisp blu-ray, hard to go wrong at this price.
