Product Description With the Wii Zapper, your game shooting experience is guarenteed to take on a whole other dimension. Your Wii remote and nunchuck fit snugly into the Zapper, still working as well as before, only now in a shape that, when simulating the use of a weapon such as a gun or bow, allows for a steadier hand that is much less likely to get tired. Included with the Zapper is Link's Crossbow Training for the Wii, a clever and engaging shooting game set in the world of Twilight Princess that includes 27 different levels, several different game modes and multiplayer capability up to four people. Link's Crossbow Training is ESRB Rated T for Teen.

Fun Piece of Hardware but totally Unnecessary August 7, 2008 You don't really need the Wii Zapper to play the game that comes with it. Like the Wii Steering Wheel, the Zapper is nothing more than a special holder for your Wii remote and Nunchuck controller. Using the Zapper to play Link's Crossbow Training can be tricky. The controls in this game don't exactly work well and will require lots of practice to master. But this is no fault of the Zapper but the game itself. The analog is used to move back and forth or to straff left or right. You turn left or right by using the motion controls which I thought would have been better on the analog stick. Often times in certain situations I keep wanting to use the analog stick to turn around forgetting that action is controlled by the motion controls. This game is not easy. This is mostly to do with the fact that aiming is not perfect. The game does allow you to make adjustments to the aim so that it feels more natural. You will have to play around with it quite a bit just to get it close to perfect. All in all I'd say this is a fun product to own but it is not really nessesary.
Good Controller Great Game August 3, 2008 The zapper is a little strange as the trigger is out front rather than in back where one would find it on a rifle. Once you get used to that oddity the zapper works great. The game that comes with it "Link's Crossbow Training" is great. I loved this game the only problem is it was a bit short. The game developers really should make some more games utilizing this controller though. Once you've beaten the game there isn't much else to do with the controller.
The game was worth it! July 29, 2008 I bought the Zapper because I liked the way it looked and wanted to have something to shoot with. But the game that comes with it was worth twice the price. A WII game for $20? The game is one of my favorites.
Fun Game, Zapper Feels Cumbersome and Lacks Ergonomics July 28, 2008 As a target shoot that competes, I love to play Wii games that help me refine me eye-hand coordination and response times. That said, I was happy when Nintendo released their designs for the Wii Zapper, however, something bothered me. The trigger was in the front while the grip was in the back. This goes against most firearm setups as most target shooters place the grips in the front while the trigger is in the back. This way, it feels more natural using your dominant hand as the trigger hand otherwise if you put it in reverse you either are forced to use your non-dominant hand or flip the hands around and are forced to keep the firearm pressed against your chest to keep your eyes down the sights. The latter is an extreme no-no for anyone who has fired an actual firearm as the butt of the rifle should go against your shoulder, NOT your chest.
That said, firearm practitioners will find the Wii Zapper extremely non-ergonomic and somewhat cumbersome. Anyone who has not fired a rifle will not notice the difference and adapt. It is understandable why the Wii Remote must be placed in front since the forward laser needs a clear line of sight, however, it takes away from the feel of the zapper. I bought the Zapper and quickly purchased the Nyko Perfect Shot as it feels more natural as a sidearm than the Zapper as a rifle or carbine.
This is not to say that the Zapper is not worth getting. Link's crossbow training is very useful at practicing your usage of a standard Wii Remote and Nunchuck as it is with the Nyko Perfect Show. I use my Perfect Shot on Link's Crossbow Training every now and then to improve my reaction time as well as eye-hand coordination. The game hosts several excellent exercises to maximize efficiency with any firearm-type Wii device so it is worth paying the money over.
All in all, the game makes the Zapper, not the other way around. Get the game but get the Nyko Perfect Shot to compliment the game.
Great Zapper & Game! July 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought the Zapper because I thought it would help with my recent purchase of House of the Dead 2 & 3. The Link game included was a bonus but, a game with "training" in the title sounded extremely basic so I didn't expect too much. I actually hoped it wouldn't taint my love for the Zelda series (which I am a humongous fan) -- honestly, the game is so much fun, I haven't even played HotD yet with the Zapper. I've been too preoccupied with getting ALL PLATINUM medals and improving my scores.
THE GAME
If you are a fan of Zelda, this set is a must-have. Totally worth the $19.99 admission. If you have played (or are playing) the Twilight Princess, you will certainly be right at home and truly be recognize most of the scenery/characters -- I'm only about half finished with Twilight so I don't recognize many of the scenes because they obviously occur later in the game. The game seems pretty simple at first as 20,000 points is not hard to get at all. When you realize that silver, gold and platinum medals await and you view some people getting vast points on Youtube.com, you might tempted to really improve. Most do once they realize how important it is in this game to shoot very accurately and not just blindly shoot around your targets. If you find this game addictive, I highly recommend you do specific searches on Youtube.com so that you can see exactly what people are doing to become VERY good. You will be inspired and you will improve. I went from being satisfied with getting 15,000 or so on a level to getting almost 160,000 on the same level just a few days later.
Important: At the beginning, there is an option for setting up your Crosshair Cursor for height and speed. Taking the time to fine-tune this will make all the difference. Some have complained about the cursor not matching where they're pointing the zapper... they simply have not configured their cursor properly.
THE ZELDA SERIES
If this is your first foray into Zelda, my hope is that you will be tempted to get into the series as it is the best. If this happens (and it probably will), I'd suggest downloading earlier versions of the series first from the online web store and playing them first -- starting with Twilight Princess might taint you to the earlier games because they're not as pretty ... you would miss out on some incredible games. I'd start with A Link to the Past. Then Ocarina of Time. Skip Majora's Mask for now and go to Twilight Princess. Majora's Mask is cumbersome so go back to it if you're really having a Zelda craving.
THE ZAPPER
The Zapper is simply a piece of plastic, but works perfectly with tyko rechargeble battery pack (if you have it), ... just take off the back cover and you're good to go. There are a lot of people complaining about the design of the Zapper, but I think it works fine as is.
Bottomline -- $19.99 is well-worth it!
