DiddyKongRacing September 30, 2008 Game works very well, play it with the kids I take care of and they love it.
This is just bad (does no one else see that?) August 5, 2008 This is so obviously just a game to milk money. It came out after Mario Kart 64, a great game by the way in many respects, and this one is just so cheap and tacky. First of all, Mario Kart is fun because you get to go to worlds you recognize and see characters you've loved for years; in this game, however, you don't see any of that, except Diddy, that's it. And the atmosphere of DK is inexistent, they just through a bunch of crap together to make raceways... a lot of raceways. Yes, you race a lot, which is fine because this is after all a racing game, but how should one feel after having to race the same bunch of tracks 3 times, while having to race a 'boss' 2? Yes, each world has like 5 tracks and a boss, from what I remember, and you race them a lot, so you have to race 17 times every single world. Oh yeah, and there's some other really unnecessary stuff on the side that you have to race too. This game is so tedious, lacking, and cheap all together; but, how does no one else see that?
IT WORKS, BUT IT'S NO MARIO KART 7 OUT OF 10 June 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Diddy Kong Racing provides an enjoyable experience, but it ultimately screams lackluster in the gameplay department. There's a ton of goodies to unlock, but the challenges feel to easy and somewhat stupid sometimes. WHAT THE GAME IS: The most blatant Mario Kart ripoff in history. This is one of the only ones that comes close to capturing the Mario Kart spirit. But the weapons aren't as fun and aren't accurate, the levels are less interesting, and only two characters would later go to achieve stardom in a later game. Yep, Conker and Banjo Kazooie are in the game, but it's so weird to see Conker not smoking a cigar, getting wasted, and peeing on enemies. Plus, they are the only cool characters. GRAPHICS: Looked good for back then, but the textures are a little these days and it has a static look to it. MUSIC: A bit annoying, it's not the enjoyable music from Mario Kart, but it's fine. SOUND: The annoying announcer, annoying character voices, firing weapons, and racing. GAMEPLAY: The controls sometimes feel a little sticky and the weapons aren't even close to accurate when hitting a target. Racing works fine overall, but the game as a whole is average and lackluster. OVERALL: Just get Mario Kart, it's a lot more fun. It wouldn't hurt to check this game out, but there are better options than this. THE GOOD: Good Mario Kart-ripoff racing and some cool environments. THE BAD: Weapon accuracy is terrible, music is annoying, controls feel a little sticky.
Diddy Kong Racing, and the year is 2007... December 13, 2007 I'm still having fun with this game - even when I was little I craved it ever little bit I could squeeze in with my friends and by myself. Now that I can actually play it whenever I want, I'd have to say it's a fun game. Of course, there will be times you run into the wall and you will run into a few glitches, but other than that it seems solid. I'm dreading Wizpig though...
Kart Racing Bliss... May 23, 2007 This is a great game. Then again, I love kart racing games. This is one of the classic kart racing games for me, its only competitor being Mario Kart 64.
In terms of single-player, I think it trumps Mario Kart. And DKR's ingeniousness comes through the planes and hover karts, my favorite still being the "car" though. However, if you look in terms of graphics and characters, Mario Kart takes the cake.
Diddy Kong Racing is great fun though. The characters are all unique. Their controls vary and they have special talents, such as speed, handling, or even being good at hovering or flying. The levels are also great fun, all of them having themes, like Christmas or pirates. The multi-player as well, as mentioned in another review, runs quite seamlessly, and I find that it is a great hit when you have poeple over.
I personally love kart racing games. I would recommend both this game and Mario Kart 64.
