4 out of 5 stars Safe Cas Review   February 1, 2008
Nintendo DS Lite Safe Case this case is a great little case, Intec fixed the problem with the latch mechanism on this case compared to the older version. and it holds the DS lite snug but not overly tight like some of the mesh cases like Nintendo DS Lite Carry Case, it holds about four games in one of the two mesh pockets, the hinge is a little funky, it will not shut if you are pulling up on the lid. but other than this little quark it is a great case and i love it.

5 out of 5 stars Not as Awful as Folks Have Said   August 11, 2007

I'll first admit that I got the case before I got my DS lite, so I haven't had the chance to actually put the game machine in the case.

Nevertheless, the case seems just fine. There is a separator between both sides of the case; the DS goes in one half, then the separator, then the side with the game pockets. The hinge IS a bit loose, but I think that's simply the way it's made. I fiddled with it for quite a while and I don't think the case will simply fall apart. Will it break if dropped from a high height to a hard surface? Possibly & probably. It's not indestructable, it's just meant to be a safe storage place for your DS versus just leaving it around the house.

One post said that the pockets had room for only one game each (there are 2 pockets). Personally, that's what I expected from the display, so I have no quarrel with that. And because they're pockets and not fixed slots, having more than one game in each could possibly do damage to the game, and who wants that?

Oily smell...there was an oily smell when I first opened the case, but it cleared up within minutes. I even closed the case back for a few minutes to see if the smell would return; it didn't.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with this case, and expect to remain so after my DS arrives. I bought it because, despite the poor reviews on Amazon, it received positive reviews on Walmart.com (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4891342). Again, the case isn't impregnable, so if you're prone to dropping stuff, it might not last long. But better the case than your DS, right?

***I also bought the Nintendo DS Lite Starter Kit on Amazon, which includes a car charger, a stylus pen, game trays, game case, ear phones, and a black soft case to put it all in (or most of it, anyway) along with your DS. At my time of purchase it was only 13.99 (I've seen it for higher prices since then) but this is also a great product. I bought that one as well (it got great reviews) and am glad I did. In addition to all the extras, the two cases compliment each other. Your DS and immediate games can go in the aluminim case, and all the extras (adapters, extra games, AC adapter, etc.) can be stored in the black soft case.

**UPDATE**
My DS Lite arrived, and I'm still pleased with the case. The DS fits snugly, and there is a little strap or piece of cloth that you can pull from under the DS to get it out, though I mostly just flip the case over and catch it. I do, however, recommend that when you close the case you double check to make sure the lock has latched. It's quite easy to close the lid but not tightly enough and possibly having your DS fall out because the lock didn't catch. All in all, I'm glad I bought this. Still no oily smell, and the hinge hasn't broken. The only complaint I could possible have is the game pockets. It's a bit of a struggle getting your DS game out of them, so I just don't use them. And my fingers are pretty small, so I'm guessing normal-sized hands will have an even tougher time. But other than that, a great purchase for a great price.

1 out of 5 stars Not a very 'safe' case   October 2, 2006

I really wanted a hard case for my 8-year-old, as he's a real klutz and frequently drops things. Aside from the toxic smell (as mentioned by other reviewers) the unit came open when dropped, dumping the DS Lite on the floor and somehow wedging a small piece of metal (obviously from the case) in one of the shoulder buttons. We managed to get the metal out and the DS itself is fine, which is a testament to Nintendo's product quality. My son, meanwhile, is now afraid to take his DS anywhere. Absolutely not worth the money, but I haven't found a hard case made by any other manufacturer.

The Nintendo DS Lite Safe Case is apparently not too safe as it broke in two days. It does not close properly and kept falling apart as I tried to close it for my son. Finally after the third time in two days that it came apart, I threw it in the garbage before it destroyed my son's Nintendo DS Lite. Definitely would not recommend this item to anyone!

1 out of 5 stars Piece of trash!   August 8, 2006

I got this thru Circuit City--so I was able to return it promptly! The entire thing smelled of oil (yes, stinky oil) so much that it made the entire Nintendo unit stink. Thankfully, once removed from said case the odor disappeared from the Nintendo! Game storage is a joke--as only one game could be stored in the "storage compartment" (which was so small that it was a stretch to even put one game in it to begin with!). This is a waste of money--get the Nintendo bag and get the quality to safely store your game machine!
