5 out of 5 stars One of the best SNES racers   February 9, 2007

I had this game back in the mid to late 1990's. My friend had it and
I would constantly borrow it from him because it was so fun. I eventually
got my own copy and sold it along with my system to buy a Dreamcast in
1999(big mistake). I recently picked this game up (about a year ago)
because I acquired a SNES redesign. Looking back on it now, it was very high tech for 1994. This was a time when all you could get was 2D racing games like F-Zero or 3rd person racing games like Rock n' Roll Racing(also very fun). Playstation didn't exist around here yet and Sega saturn was very young. Nintendo recently developed the Super FX chip which was an extra 32bit internal processor to generate 3D images on a 16bit Super Nintendo. It was only used on 3 games(this one, Star Fox, and Dirt Trax FX.

Now on to the review. Today, graphically this game would be considered as crap. This happens with pretty much every game though. The frame rate isn't very high(prob 20-25 frames a second) and everything is not very detailed. The thing is you have to remember that this game was made in 1994 though. These graphics were probably some of the best that Super Nintendo could when it came to 3D games.
Gameplay wise, back in the day it was really fun. It still is today even though I'm much better than I was then. You basically start out with 3 vehicles and 4 tracks. The vehicles are a big "monster" truck, a small 2 door coupe, and a small indy type car. All the vehicles have their pros and cons. The truck is strong and fast accelerating, but it has a slow top speed. The small coupe is more average in all departments. The indy car is fast in the long run, but very weak for collisions and slower accelerating. At one point you drive an 18 wheeler to get bonus points halfway through the races. After you beat the first 8 tracks, you get a motorcycle in the time trail mode thats much faster than all the other cars, but kinda weak on the outside. You also had a mock NOS boost that allowed you to get a better boost throughout the game.

The tracks provide alot of variety for this game. You have city tracks, mountain tracks, nighttime tracks, water tracks(one actually goes underwater in with glass walls)and snow tracks. There is 12 regular tracks, plus a bunch of bonus tracks that kinda help you train. The bonus tracks will keep you coming back for more.

All in all, this game is great and a must buy for anyone whom likes racing games and owns a Super Nintendo. Especially when you can pick it up for under $5.

5 out of 5 stars People are too hard on this game,   January 9, 2002

when you see this game get bad reviews its mostly because it is being compared to the newer games of today. this game was way ahead of its time when it was released and you just cant compare it to any other race games. this game is still hours and hours of fun ecspecially if your someone who grew up playing regular nintendo(the best system ever) and super nintendo. it may be an easy game to beat but it never gets old. the two player mode is awesome and so is the championship mode. overall i see no flaws in this game so i would definatley reccomend it to anyone who still appreciates their super nintendo.

2 out of 5 stars Stepping stone for other racing games   November 16, 2001

This is a racing game, which features the first set of 3D racing track. However it only offers eight racing tracks, so the game goes by quickly. Another downer is that there are only three cars to select from (a dragster, a stock car and a monster truck). As much as this is the first and only 3D racing game for the SNES, there are no textures on the vehicles and walls. So it looks like your driving a box. The racetracks themselves are not difficult at all and anyone can breeze through them. Skip this game and go for a real racing game like F-Zero or Super Mario Kart!
