5 out of 5 stars Great BB Game for newbies   May 29, 2008
I don't know of all the different variables that go into peoples reviews but this game is a blast. It looks real & 3D on a 1080p tv. It is easy to pick up and play plus the sound thru digital is amazing. Is it perfect? I don't care...it's too much fun!

4 out of 5 stars This Game Is Relly Near Perfect but They Should Work More On Pictures   May 3, 2008
this game for me is 2nd ps3 game ever intill now,you can also dowload the new roster from the internet, but i noticed that studey mayer look not the same to real one.

1 out of 5 stars Glad the season is almost over, 'cause I don't get it   May 2, 2008

I have been awed by 2k sports since 2k. The football games 2k-2k2 were fantastic and the basketball 2k-2k1 was simply the best. Even Major League Baseball or World Series (whatever it was called) 2k1 was freaking amazing.
I finally got a cable modem and went online with NBA 2k7 for the first time at the tail end of its thunder. Once 2k8 came out, the lobbies for 2k7 were a ghost town. So I got it. Chris Paul's on the cover, I'm a New Orleans guy, my favorite b-ball franchise player on the cover of my favorite b-ball game franchise (hmmm, 2k2 sucked, but overall . .); how can this go wrong?
Before I go any further, I haven't thrown a controller across the room since I was nine. Well, I didn't exactly do that, but I haven't been pissed over a video game in at least a decade.

Needless to say, this game makes my blood boil.

The countless hours I have spent refining my 2k basketball skillz mean nothing for this edition. I get beat almost everytime I play online.
I even love the graphics, too. I like the lock-on defense. The free throws are kind of stupid, since you can't use your shot stick online; you're forced to use the damn six axis feature; again, stupid.

I want it to be simpler. I don't desire to learn plays! I want to see an alley-oop and if the person I'm playing doesn't lock on me, I want to yank that alley-oop in his grill. But I have had this game now since pre-season began. I still haven't figured how to alley-oop the ball. This is . . . this is totally unacceptable.

I'm going to sell that game before it loses anymore value ya'll.

3 out of 5 stars unbelievable   April 20, 2008

In an effort to make this game as real as possible, it seems that designers decided that dunking and driving the lane are not part of the NBA. I disagree, but then again I only watch NBA games I don't design them. A graphically superb product is dragged down by completely unbelievable gameplay. Can anyone please explain why my player would do a fadeaway jumper on a fast break? Over and over?? I understand that jump shooting and defense are necessary parts of the experience, but DANG! I should be able to complete a dunk on a one-on-none fast break.
Maybe basketball is just to fluid of a game in real life to translate well to a gaming console.

3 out of 5 stars Gameplay issues keep it to 3 stars   February 5, 2008
Bought this for my new PS3- and like all the other reviews, have to second that the visuals and motion graphics are the best I've ever seen.
However, a couple of gameplay issues have made this a far less satisfying game for me than it should be- I'm experimenting with the slider bar adjustments to see if I can fix this, but so far heven't been able to see much of a difference.
My issues are basically two: (1) defense is still a frustrating task- particularly low post defense. The AI scores a ton of points in the paint, usually on dunks or layups, even when I am in a 2-3 zone with a very good defensive team: the players you aren't controlling seem to have no ability to help out with cuts to the basket, even players with very high defensive ratings. When you are on offense, the AI has similar deficiencies- it's pretty easy to get deep in the paint and score (so long as you don't get your shot stuffed, which occurs regularly unless you turn the AI shot-blocking ability way down). And this occurs almost irrespective of the abilities of the players involved- just about any AI controlled player will relentlessly be able to get deep into the paint on you and score at will.
(2) The on-the-fly game calling controls are impossible to use easily. You are supposed to "press the directional button" to call plays on offense or sets on defense, but to successfully do so, you have to press the directional button in the EXACT middle of the pad- just a little off to any side and it will bring up screens for player substitutions and game settings, which also won't go away for a few seconds, obscuring gameplay until they do. VERY frustrating- it should be much easier to call up plays on the fly- and to successfully play this game, you need to be able to run offensive set plays, and mix-up defensive sets at will, because otherwise your players just stand around a lot. It doesn't look like you can change the siraxis controls to make this easier, either.

Graphics and animations are nice, but so far for me, these simple gameplay issues have me about ready to look for something else to do, till the baseball season starts.
