Good for modding October 2, 2008 As another reviewer said on the page for Playstation 2 Two DDR Dance Pads Combo, this product is great to experiment with for modding. I could tell as soon as I got it out of the box that it was very flimsy, but I tried it once, without modding, first.
The stickers to hold the pad in place do not work very well. The surface of the pad itself is also rather slippery. It moves around too much, and makes a distracting crinkly sound.
As the aforementioned reviewer suggested, I got two boards to sandwich the pad with: a 1/2" thick 3'x3' piece of plywood to go on the bottom, and a 1/8" thick piece of the same dimensions for the top.
After giving the boards sweet paint jobs, I duct taped the pad to the 1/2" board, then placed the 1/8" board onto the pad, with more duct tape. After testing it again, it was quieter, easier to grip with my feet, and stayed put. However, I found that it was difficult to stay on center (although I always have this problem) and it tended to press multiple buttons. I removed the top board, and cut out a circle in the middle. I placed the board and the circle I cut back on the pad, and it now works beautifully.
So why only 3 stars? Well, it's a very cheap pad. The price reflects that, but I prefer to review things without regard to the price. If you plan to play any songs over around 3 feet, you'll find that the pad simply will not hold up. It is almost impossible to keep it still, etc. etc. If you plan to use it for modding work, however, or building your own pad, it's ideal.
A fine dance pad! September 20, 2008 Sure, it isn't the most durable or slip proof dance pad, but it's definitely great for beginners and low-impact use. I just got into Stepmania so I'm not exactly "1337" at dance pads, so it was perfect for me. It slips a bit when you start moving fast which can get annoying, but the game's fun, so you'll get over it. Overall, for the price, (6$) I think it was a great buy.
Not half bad July 31, 2008 These things aren't half bad. They work better than the ones with the foam in them. However, mine seem to break very easily. I myself take very good care of the mat, it's my sister and her friends, on the other hand, that tend to break them. I would get it for kids, but for teens and adults, try to find something else.
Great control July 30, 2008 Loved it, works great on ddr games, I never knew that it was so much fun till I got the hang of it. Huge pad which needed an open area for movement. I would recommend this to every one.
DDr mat June 25, 2008 This product works as well as the original DDR mat though the covering is thinner than the original and it tends to bunch up after very little use. After three weeks, the fumes from the plastic still smell toxic, even after airing it outside.
