3 out of 5 stars They say hindsight is 20/20...This game wasn't as great as I remembered.   March 4, 2008

What's sad is that this game seemed like a huge achievement back in '94. Maybe I was too young to realize it back then. Maybe it was lack of experience. I thought this game rocked when it first came out, and unfortunately I'm no longer sure why.

To me, it seems this is a fairly average platformer wrapped up in a beautiful package. The graphics were novel and unique at the time, but I guess now I just think they're awkward and weird looking. My main beef with the game is the control and the frustrating level design. The mine cart stages and the ones where you have to fire yourself from barrel to barrel...somehow I beat this when I was 6. I can't fathom how I did that now.

Another minor problem is that the bosses are all pretty easy. Four hits usually does the trick.
I don't recommend re-playing this oldie. Unlike Sonic and Mario World, this one may be better left as a childhood memory.

5 out of 5 stars Best video game ever.   February 27, 2008
The above title is not an exaggeration -- I don't throw the honor around lightly, and I've only ever given it to Zelda: A Link to the Past (also on SNES). The controls are simple and game play is just easy enough to keep me interested, but hard enough to be challenging. This game is especially fun when played cooperatively, with player 2 as Diddy Kong.

5 out of 5 stars Donkey Kong Country goodness!   January 16, 2008
This has to be one of my favorite Super Nintendo games of all time. The graphics are excellent for its time; however, they still stand up to todays standards in 2d sidescrolling platformer games. I recommend getting it for the Super Nintendo, Wii Virtual Console, and Game Boy Advance.

This game consists of three game files you can choose to use. Also make sure the game has a game battery that works or you will not be able to save your progress once you access Candy's Save Point located closer to the end of the first world (Kongo Jungle). Futhermore, playing the game with a dead back up battery is no fun especially when you do not feel like playing it anymore for the day; and the next day you turn the Super Nintendo on and the progress that you worked hard for did not save like it should. On the other hand, the music is very catchy making you want to sing it while you are in the levels especially in the first level.

5 out of 5 stars Great Game   October 17, 2007
I absolutely love the Donkey Kong Country series. They all have a great soundtrack, wonderful graphics, and are somewhat difficult-but very enertaining. This DKC is great because the two characters really balance each other out (one is more for stregnth, the other speed) and it really sets the standard for the other two. The only con about this game is that I like having to search for the DK coins (like in DKC 2 & 3). It makes the game more challenging and keeps you entertained longer. Other than that, I really enjoy this game, and would recommend this to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars An SNES Acheivement   October 6, 2007
Without a doubt, Donkey Kong Country is one the best SNES games ever made. It's also the best game of the Donkey Kong Country trilogy. The game itself was beyond it's time, introducing 3-D looking graphics that stunned players across the nation and the world. This has to be on Nintendo's list of greatest games. If your thinking about purchasing this game, buy it!!! But be sure to get a good deal. If you happen to own a Wii, then you've got it made. This game is available on the Virtual Console and can be purchased for 800 Points ($8). So be sure to at least try Donkey Kong Country, you're in for quite a treat!!!
