"It was good, but not great"--Homer Simpson at Storytown Village in "Lisa The Vegetarian" October 18, 2008 What really sells this game are the animated vignettes between the levels that are very well-done and entertaining. The creator of The Sims and Matt Groening even make appearances. It includes typical self-ridiculing Simpsons humor usually aimed at Fox, but this time aimed at the gaming industry. You see many different Simpsons characters, even some minor ones including Mr. Sparkle. They even say a few lines from Simpsons episodes. I like the two-headed Selma and Patty dragon that tells Homer "Get a divorce."
While the story-line is exceptional, the game play is the common drudgery style of many games where your character beats up other characters and collects various doubloons to reach each level. Each of the main characters has a special power: Homer bloats up into a ball, Bart becomes the caped El Barto, Lisa meditates and uses the "Hand of Buddha," and Marge nags people into doing her bidding. Still, it's the constant fighting that gets frustrating and, if you have problems getting past a certain point, you have to do the whole level all over again. I found the game very challenging and was often stuck at certain spots either not being able to get past them or not knowing what to do next. I didn't enjoy playing the game as a result. The animation and the cut-scenes are very entertaining, but how many times can you watch them?
The Simpsons Game July 9, 2008 I love the Simpsons and really enjoyed the version for the Xbox 360, so when I saw it on sale at my local retail store I though why not? Man, was I stupid. This version (DS), in my opinion has to be the worst version I have played. I thought it was quite entertaining and, of course, quite challenging, in the beginning. However, once the novelty wore off I started getting a headache from the constant repetitious dialogue. I opted actually to play the game without sound. The frustration only builds more and more as you play the game, because the game is designed in such a way that once you beat a really hard part and happen to die before reaching the checkpoint, well, you get to do it all over again, and again, and again, and again.
I know for some they like the challenge, but after doing something repeatedly, especially as frustrating as some parts were, it really takes away the entertaining part of the game. As others have noted, you have unlimited lives, but that does not make it any better, more than once I have had to just turn the system off, otherwise it would probably have gone out the window. Maybe not the DS, but definitely the game. Also, the problem with such a set up is that once you do reach a checkpoint and find yourself at the beginning of where you were before, it is easier to die and restart at the checkpoint then to go through that frustration all over again.
I really wanted to like this game, and figured a portable version of what I played on the 360 would be interesting, since I love the Simpsons anyway, alas, I was wrong. I honestly cannot recommend this game, unless you have great patience and desire to repeat and repeat and repeat.
If you find in the bargain bin, it might be good to kill a few hours until the frustration gets too much, or you might find something a little better and more entertaining. It hurts me to even give it a 2 out of 5, but its a game based on a very entertaining show, it is a real shame the game was not as entertaining.
Fun and challenging! April 16, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am an adult gamer and decided to get this game based on the reviews here.
Sure enough, it is fun and challenging. You never lose lives. I had alot of fun playing it. Some parts were hard but I got over it after some practicing. You have to collect all the coins, papers and cliches. I completed the game but got only 97% because I wasn't able to get all the items I needed. There were times I wanted to go back after seeing that I missed a coin over there, but once you across a certain point, you cannot go back. Unless you want to start over again on that certain level.
It is rated T due to mild language. It is almost easy enough for kids but due to the language they had to rate it a 'T'.
The game does save where you left off. Graphics are great & colorful, just like the TV cartoon.
Recommended for those who want a silly, fun and kind of short game.
The... Simpsons...Game! March 1, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The simpsons is something that we all know and love. They have been in and around our lives for about 20 years now, and I beleive that no other animated series will ever come to portray the greatness that the simpsons has. With that being said, the simpsons game is just simply a great game! The simpsons has had many games in the past, to entertain it's fanbase. Only one game has been worthy to hold the titile of the simpsons game, and that is this one! The DS version of this game portrays not only the TV show itself, but the abilities of the characters as well. When you have Homer turning into a big blob, Bart turning into Bartman, Lisa using her mind powers, Marge using her persuasive tone and her Megaphone, and Maggie using her tinyness to crawl through small space, how could you go wrong?
The gameplay of the game is pretty fun to start out, but then it gets a bit repetitive. The gameplay is basically the same on each level. You use the special abilities of that character to get through a level filled with traps and bad guys. Sounds pretty vague huh? Well it is, to a certain extent. But what the developers did is made every level unique in its own way, to keep the play interested.
Overall the Simpsons game on DS is the best out of all of them. I have played the PS3, 360 AND Wii Versions, and I really think they do not compare to the DS version. The DS version just combines beutiful 2D graphics with a 3D engine, to make for a smooth looking game.

Decent game.... February 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I thought that this was a pretty decent game. Not what I expected, but it will do. It was not on the "adventure" gaming level that I expected. If you are a serious adventure gamer, this is not for you. However, if you just want something a little different, get bored one day, than, ok. This game is quite fun, and cute.
